We have before us a small bronze coin <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 5th c. (part <strong>of</strong> a follaro)<br />

with Felix. Ravenna and a turreted head on obv., and on rev. Ravenna in<br />

a monogram within a wreath. The money struck by Venice for this city<br />

was more probably coined in <strong>the</strong> capital. Felix. Ravenna., Rv., DC.<br />

Ravena., or Eclesie. Ravene.<br />

Ravensperg. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dukes <strong>of</strong> Gueldres enjoyed <strong>the</strong> title <strong>of</strong> Count<br />

<strong>of</strong> R. On a gold-gulden <strong>of</strong> Raynald IV., 1402-23, he is styled Co. R.<br />

There is a copper sechscr <strong>of</strong> 1621 with Nvmtnvs Ravenspvrg, and a piece<br />

<strong>of</strong> 12 pfennigen in copper <strong>of</strong> 1659, belonging to this place.<br />

Recanati, Deleg. <strong>of</strong> Ancona, <strong>the</strong> source <strong>of</strong> some autonomous coins<br />

between <strong>the</strong> i4th and i6th c., with De. Reca. Neto. on obv., and on rev.<br />

Mari. A.; o<strong>the</strong>rs have De Racanati. and D. Rccaneto., with S. Flavianvs<br />

on rev.<br />

Reckheim, Brabant, a free barony and a mint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Heeren or<br />

Seigneurs <strong>of</strong> Sombreffe and Vlodorp, who copied <strong>the</strong> Metz types. A<br />

silver daalder <strong>of</strong> Hermann van Lynden, 1603, was apparently struck here,<br />

as well as o<strong>the</strong>r pieces <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Seigneurs <strong>of</strong> Lynden. There is also a<br />

considerable copper coinage.<br />

Rccklinghaiisen, Prussian Westphalia, a mint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Archbp. <strong>of</strong><br />

Cologne 1 4th c., <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Seigneurs <strong>of</strong> Broech and Counts <strong>of</strong> Limburg,<br />

and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Counts <strong>of</strong> Recklinghausen. At present<br />

it is <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> dukedom <strong>of</strong> Arenberg, and was in <strong>the</strong> last century <strong>the</strong> seat <strong>of</strong> coinage.<br />

Relnichsven, and Nvm. Rihlinght's.<br />

Redon, Brittany, a mint established by John V., Duke <strong>of</strong> B., in 1422.<br />

A denier <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> I3th c. reads Scs. Martinus and Redonis Civi.<br />

Regensburg. See Ratisbon.<br />

Reggio, a seat <strong>of</strong> episcopal coinage in <strong>the</strong> ijth c., and <strong>of</strong> papal coinage<br />

(1512-23). There is a denaro <strong>of</strong> Nicolo Maltraversi (1233-93). Reggio<br />

subsequently formed part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> duchy <strong>of</strong> Modena under <strong>the</strong> Este<br />

family. There is a mezzo scudo <strong>of</strong> Ercole II., with <strong>the</strong> title <strong>of</strong> Duke <strong>of</strong><br />

Reggio only, and a copper quattrino with Regivm Lepidi a recollection<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Roman name.<br />

Reichenstein, Silesia, a mint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Seigneurs <strong>of</strong> Rosenberg and <strong>the</strong><br />

Dukes <strong>of</strong> Liegnitz-Brieg.<br />

Reims, Champagne, a mint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Merovingian, Carlovingian, and<br />

Austrasian kingdoms, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Counts <strong>of</strong> Champagne, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Archbishops<br />

(sometimes in concert with <strong>the</strong> former), and finally <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Crown. The<br />

last archbishop who struck money appears to have been Jean de Craon,<br />

1355-73. The Comte" was incorporated with <strong>the</strong> See in <strong>the</strong> nth c.,<br />

and<br />

<strong>the</strong> mint <strong>of</strong> Mouzon, formerly belonging to <strong>the</strong> Abbey <strong>of</strong> Saint Vannes at<br />

Verdun, was taken over about <strong>the</strong> same time. Re. Remus, Rimus,<br />

A etc.<br />

denier <strong>of</strong> Charles le Chauve has Remis Civitas. One <strong>of</strong> Henri de<br />

Dreux, archbp. 1227-45, reads on rev. Tebau Comes.<br />

Remiremont, Vosges, with Saint Die", an ancient abbatial mint, and<br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earliest places <strong>of</strong> coinage <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> duchy <strong>of</strong> Lorraine, and Lorraine<br />

and Bar. The ecclesiastical series have <strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong> St. Peter and<br />

St. Amatus, and a cross cantoned with Ro Ma Ri Cvs. See Cat. Robert,<br />

1886, Nos. 1668-82. Romaricvs., or Romarti.<br />
