Dickpfenning, a billon coin <strong>of</strong> Strasburgh-in-Elsas, 1 7th- 1 8th = c. 6<br />

baetzner, and apparently<br />

= 48 deniers.<br />

Dickthalcr, <strong>the</strong> Austrian thaler <strong>of</strong> small and thick fabric, dated 1484,<br />

with <strong>the</strong> portrait <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Archduke Sigismund. There is <strong>the</strong> half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

same type. Later thalers <strong>of</strong> Mansfeld, etc., bear <strong>the</strong> same designation.<br />

There is a dickthaler <strong>of</strong> Schaumburg-Lippe, 1765. A double dickthaler<br />

<strong>of</strong> Munster, 1647, is cited by Sch., Cat. ix. 606. A most rare dickthaler<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hamburgh, 1505, is<br />

described as being a i^ markstiick.<br />

Dijonnois, <strong>the</strong> local term assigned to <strong>the</strong> Burgundian money struck at<br />

Dijon.<br />

Dinar, pi. dinara, silver currency <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> modern kingdom <strong>of</strong> Serbia or<br />

Servia. A dinar is = 100 para. There are pieces <strong>of</strong> 5, 2, and i dinar<br />

and 50 para in silver, and <strong>of</strong> 10 and 20 dinara in gold.<br />

Dinerillo, a small copper coin <strong>of</strong> Philip III. and IV. <strong>of</strong> Spain, and <strong>of</strong><br />

Louis XIII. and XIV. <strong>of</strong> France, struck for Valencia, I7th c. It seems<br />

to be identical with <strong>the</strong> dineruelo, said by Whelan to be current in<br />

Arragon.<br />

Dinero, <strong>the</strong> Spanish denier, struck for Navarre, I7th c., and <strong>the</strong><br />

Balearic Isles, 1<br />

7th- 1 8th c. The term was employed in Spain to signify<br />

money generally, like <strong>the</strong> French argent.<br />

One. <strong>of</strong> John III. (1521-57) is <strong>of</strong>fered by Schulman, Cat. xi. 774. But <strong>the</strong><br />

piece was struck by Alfonso V. (1438-81). It was suggested, perhaps, by<br />

<strong>the</strong> copper currency <strong>of</strong> Castile and Leon under John II.<br />

<strong>the</strong> French Revolution = -fa <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Itvre, and <strong>the</strong> prototype <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> decime.<br />

= 16 silver lire <strong>of</strong> Genoa, I7th c. On<br />

<strong>the</strong> obv. <strong>the</strong> Virgin is crowned by two angels.<br />
