(1579-84), an <strong>of</strong>fice which was held by <strong>the</strong> Princes<br />

<strong>of</strong> Orange with certain breaks, and made hereditary in<br />

All <strong>the</strong>se have been rendered familiar names by <strong>the</strong>ir former<br />

numismatic activity. Dordrecht, Enkhuisen, Hoorn, Harderwijk,<br />

and Utrecht were <strong>the</strong> colonial mints. Stavoren was<br />

an ancient seat <strong>of</strong> coinage <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Counts <strong>of</strong> West Friesland.<br />

Batenborg, Bolsverd, Cuilemborg, Cuinre, Megen, Gronsfeld,<br />

struck feudal money. The currency <strong>of</strong> Groningen in copper<br />

commences at a very early date, and is<br />

long limited to <strong>the</strong><br />

braspenning, <strong>of</strong> which we have seen examples dated 1509,
