Miss Orlena Lynn delighted everyone
with her fine messages on February 6,
both in the morning
and evening. She
spoke at the Y. P hour, and showed
some of her slides. We all were struck
when she told us that every single mem
ber of their church in Kobe is actively
witnessing. They read and study the
Blue Banner Faith and Life too.
"Christ in the Psalms" in the College
audience on Sabbath evening, February
and Mrs. John Coleman and arranged by
Charles McBurney.
LOS ANGELES
They did it again. They wondered if
they could surprise us. They did. Not
one of the children even let the secret
out. It occurred at a congregational din
ner on January 28,
1955. The Thankoffering
meeting was to follow with Miss
Elizabeth McElroy to be the missionary
speaker. It was the occasion of our 40th
wedding anniversary but we were not
suspicious that anything particular was
on our behalf. However the
"bride"
wore a lovely
orchid corsage
home, and the "groom" was handed a
generous purse of money, and about one
hundred and twenty
persons present
shared in eating a huge delicious wed
ding cake, beautifully decorated with
wedding bells, love birds, etc, etc. Later
the Thank-offering address was well re
ceived, the Covenanter Daughters and
the Covenettes added considerable sums
of money to their treasuries and all
went home happy. Thank you, folks, for
the gifts and for all the various evidenc
es of your affection towards us.
You
gave us a bright start into the oncoming
years.
Elmer G. and Blanche M. Russell
A few day's visit with Mr. and Mrs.
Herold Hanna of
Bloomington, Indiana
was greatly enjoyed by the Russells at
Holiday time. They were guests New
Year's Eve at Couple's Club dinner and
attended the Tournament of Roses pa
rade on New Year's Day
at Pasadena.
Those who know Rev. Bergin Birdsall,
the brother of Don Birdsall of the Los
Angeles congregation, will be interested
to know that he and his wife are recov
ering from a most serious accident. They
were struck down by an automobile
while crossing a street intersection in
the city. Both received contusions, many
broken bones, and multiple bruises.
Many prayers have been offered for
their recovery and God has graciously
heard and is granting them a recovery
that seems like a miracle. Rev. Birdsall
has been working in the California Tem
perance work and has published a book
on the temperance cause to be used in
the instruction of youth.
THANK YOU
Ever since the time, some months
ago, when we came to the EASTVALE
CONGREGATION, there has been no
end to the nice things that have been
done for us by
our people. It is such
a privilege and luxury to be the first
occupants of the new Admiral parson
age, built largely through the efforts
of Eastvale members and friends. All
along, there have been gifts to help
us beautify the interior of the home,
or to supplement the menu at meal
time. At both the Annual Anniversary
Dinner, and the Christmas Program,
there were generous financial gifts.
And now the latest event to leave a
"green"
preacher and his wife speech
less was a "pounding
of the
held after Prayer Meeting the other
evening. The food presented to us that
evening prompted one little boy to sug
gest that we put out a sign, and start
a grocery store. All of these kindnesses
are most surely appreciated,
and we
thank our Heavenly Father for such a
thoughtful congregation, and for such
generous gifts. Most of all, we appre
ciate those Christians who have been
faithful in
their intercessory prayers
for the minister and all the work of
the congregation.
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson of
Youngstown who are going as Missionar
ies to Brazil under the direction of the
Oriental Missionary Society, spoke at
our church on February 9.
Valentine Day was celebrated by a
box supper in the church basement. The
proceeds went to the Women's Mission
March 2, 1955
ary Society. 143
