A LINCOLN DAY GIFT FOR YOU
LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAY IS COM
ING. Believing that every church, high
school, college, and public library ought
to have one or more books on President
Lincoln and his faith in God, the author
of "THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM LIN
COLN"
is hereby offering free copies to
your church, school and public library
as long as the supply lasts. This book
was recommended as a MUST by The
Sunday School Times, and by many oth
er Religious and secular periodicals. The
introduction is by Dr. Charles M. Shel
don of "In His Steps" fame.
"I shall pass this way but once. Any
good that I can do, let me do it now.
Let me not withhold or defer it, for I
shall not pass this way
On December 5 the Sacrament of the
Lord's Supper was observed together
with the signing
of the Covenant. We
were highly privileged on this occasion
in having with us the Rev. Samuel E.
Boyle whose messages were most timely
and challenging. On Monday evening
Mr.
Boyle showed motion pictures of
his work in Japan.
The Sabbath School recently sent
$30.00 to the Cyprus Building Fund.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. El
mer Faris on the arrival of a fine baby
boy, Douglas Charles on November 18.
At the October meeting members of
the Women's Missionary Society packed
a large box of clothing for the Southern
Mission.
In December Christmas cor
sages were made for the ladies in the
Aged People's Home and gifts for the
children at the Indian Mission.
Through voluntary contributions a
goodly sum of money was sent to the
Kentucky Mission for the purchase of
Bibles. The fund was sponsored by the
Women's Missionary Society.
Rev. Sam Boyle was with us, January
16, just for the day; it was indeed a very
busy one for him, we think. He preached
stirring sermons morning and evening.
The evening sermon on Communism was
very informative, coming from one so
closely in touch with it in China and
Japan. He gave a chalk-talk to the
Juniors in the evening; immediately af
ter, he came into the Discussion Group
meeting, showed beautiful and instruc
tive slides of Japan; then the evening
sermon. In the afternoon a pastoral call
was made into the home of a mission
scholar, a little girl who was seriously
ill. From the pulpit, he asked that we
pray, not only for the child but also for
February 2, 1955
the mother and grandmother for an im
proved spiritual life, in them. God took
the little girl late that evening. Rev.
Boyle was called back Tuesday from
Topeka to conduct the funeral service.
A touching part of our Christmas pro
gram was when a Junior, Jackis Burke,
appeared on the platform, calling for
Mrs. Coleman. He gave her, with an
endearing little speech, a very fine pock
etbook. Mrs. Coleman has been Junior
Superintendent twenty-nine years :
Mrs. Robt. More, Sr., assistant for six
teen years, Herbert Hunter presented a
gift. These were from the Juniors and
Intermediates to their retiring superin
tendents. Mrs. Coleman, can see the
fruit of some of her work in youngsters
who have now grown up
to
and are now
serving the church as she did, so faith
fully. Mrs. Wylie Hunter and Miss Mar
garet Hall have taken over the Junior
work.
Mrs. Betty Coleman Weimer sponsors
the new Intermediate class. They had a
contest from
studies in the Gos
pel of John. Wilbur More and Jim
Wright tied for first place and Nancy
Wright captured second place. This
group is now completing a study in the
NAVIGATORS Introductory Bible Stu
dy Book.
The Discussion Group take special
studies from Dr. Vos' BLUE BANNER
FAITH AND LIFE. We are proud of
the various groups led by
younger mem
bers, especially in their selections for
study.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ward and their
three fine boys are worshiping with us.
Mrs. Ward helps in the Bible School, as
substitute teacher. She is the daughter
of Rev. M. S. McMillan. We are happy to
have them.
Robt. More Jr. spent the holidays at
home. We miss him but glad to have
him in Geneva.
Our Parsonage Committee rendered
good service. We now have a nice new
parsonage for Dr. and Mrs. Robb and
are looking forward to their coming.
Dr. G. M. Robb preached his first ser
mon as our pastor, January 23, a cold
bright sunshiny morning
without and
much warmth within; his text, Romans
15:16.
