There are many problems and diffi
culties abroad in the world. Someone
has said that four-fifths of all the
world's trouble is domestic. This could
be remedied by
obedience to the re
vealed will of God for the home and its
relationships (Eph. 5:22-6:9; Col. 3:18-
4:1). The answer to the disagreements
andjproblems between capital and labor
are found in the Golden Rule (Matt.
7:12). The reason and the remedy for
the troubles in and among the nations
are suggested in Isa. 60:12 and Psalm
33:12. For every sin that can be named
juvenile and adult delinquency, crime,
drunkenness, immorality, gambling,
Sabbath desecration, and all the rest,
"Thy Will Be Done" is a petition of
far-reaching implications. The fulfill
fulfillment of it will change the world.
For this we must pray, even as Christ
taught us to do.
Choosing the Site
"And Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld
the plain of Jordan that it was well
watered everywhere . . . Then
Lot chose
him all the plain of Jordan and Lot
This is a question of accommodation.
A Good Situation
This is most important. We have the
world to chose from. There is plenty of
room although most of us feel we could
use more. Before buying
a home one
wishes to get information concerning
the vicinity, the schools, the church ad
vantages, postal service, the highways,
streets, type of neighbors,
factors. Just recently
and all other
one of our
churches was forced to move backward
because the street was being widened.
Homes often move and may
398
leave the
church without members in the area.
Then the church must move.
There
must be plans for growth and expansion
in considering building a church. Even
mission stations are forced to move be
cause of changing times and conditions.
At present our church is considering
building up new churches
in certain
promising areas, also considering the
closing down of certain stations where
work has been carried on.
Access to our own church
In choosing a home this factor is most
important. For the good of all a new
home should be planned near the church
where the family worships.
For Discussion:
1 Seeking divine guidance in choos
ing a new site.
2 Disappointment in building without
God's guidance. Deut. 28:39; Jer. 14:19;
Zeph. 1:13
PITTSBURGH PRESBYTERIAL
The seventieth annual convention of
the Pittsburgh Presbyterial W.M.S. met
at the Parnassus R. P. Church at New
Kensington, Penna., Thursday May 19,
1955.
The theme of
the convention was,
"We are ambassadors for Christ," and
the Psalm was the 146th. The president
Mrs. John S.
Mclsaac called the first
session to order at 10 :30 a.m. The devo
tional period was conducted by Mrs. S.
B. Willson. Reports of officers and su
perintendents were given and routine
business was attended to. During the
noon recess the delegates were invited
to the basement rooms for lunch. Tea,
coffee and salad were served by the
women of the church.
The afternoon session was opened
with a devotional period led by Mrs. J.
Paul McCracken. Seventeen memorial
members were remembered in an im
pressive service conducted by Mrs. J. P.
Mitchell. Mrs. K. S. Edgar reported for
the Women's Association, which is in
need of our prayers and financial sup
port.
We were very fortunate to have sev
eral missionaries bring brief reports of
their work and relate incidents of some
of the people with whom they work.
They include, Miss Elizabeth McElroy,
Latakia, Syria; Miss Blanche McCrea,
Nicosia, Cyprus; Mrs. R. C. Adams,
Sandy Hook, Ky.; and Mrs. D. C. Ward,
Apache, Oklahoma.
Mrs. R. H. McKelvey of the Lochiel
congregation gave a very interesting
message on the work they are doing and
the opposition they
receive from the
Catholics.
Mrs. R. H. George led in the
closing prayer.
A delicious turkey dinner was served
by the Parnassus U. P. Church.
The evening devotions were conducted
by Mrs. J. G. Vos with Mrs. J. P. Hickey
leading the praise service.
Rev. S. E. Boyle of Kobe, Japan
brought a very enlightening message of
his work in Japan, of our responsibility,
and the need for help to China and Ja
pan through our money, literature and
prayers. He suggests we go out in our
neighborhoods and bring in people to
become Christians.
The Rev. Willard McMillan closed the
convention with prayer and the benedic
tion.
New officers are: President, Mrs. D.
Howard Elliott; Second vice
president,
Mrs. Bruce Willson; Corresponding Sec
