A TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF MRS. CAROLINE SLOAN The Women's Missionary Society of the Central-Pittsburgh Reformed Pres byterian Church desire to pay a tribute of esteem to the memory of Mrs. Caro line A. Sloan who passed away on Sep tember 29, 1954 at the home of her daughter in California. At the age of 14 Mrs. Sloan united with the Pittsburgh congregation, and was later married there by her pastor, Dr. David McAllister. Mrs. Sloan was a member of the choir for a number of years and was faithful and regular in her attendance at Sabbath School and church services. The Women's Missionary Society ex tends to her family their deepest sym pathy and recommend to them Proverbs 4:18, "The path of the just is as the shining light, which shineth more and more unto the perfect day," and Psalm 16:11 "Thou wilt show me the path of life; in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for ever more." Your Editor has been looking over his expenses and liability for the year 1954- 55 and our present assets and our bank statement, and the several weeks we have yet to run the paper in the present fiscal year. The encouraging feature about it is that there are some $1300 still due us from many of you subscrib ers, and we trust that part of this money is now on the way or will have been re ceived before this is read by you, but we will need it every bit for the finish ing of the year in order to keep from swimming in red ink. (Laura McClure) Steel on January 20, 1955. In the West Penn Hos pital, Pittsburgh, Pa. Funeral services were conducted at her late home by Dr. R. C. Fullerton. Interment in the Steel private cemetery. Mrs: Steel is survived by one daugh ter, Mrs. Donald Crawford, Phoenix, Arizona, and four sons; Joseph W., Jr., Shreveport, La., John and William at home and James at Penn State Univer sity. Two grandchildren, five brothers and one sister also survive. Mrs. Steel was active in Church work, in the Sab bath School and Women's Missionary Society and will be greatly missed in our church. CHICAGO The Chicago C.Y.P.U. held its quarter ly business meeting at the home of the Carsons. At this meeting plans were formulated for raising money to go to Campi Covamikoi. Following the meet ing a party was held. Humorous prizes were awarded to the winner of each game. Mr. Peter MacRitchie, Sr. has recent ly undergone surgery at the Billings Hospital. He is presently at home and recovering nicely. Our last congregational dinner, Janu ary 22, was certainly a festive one. The young people were in charge of the af fair under the able chairmanship of Miss Ruby Sinclair. The basement was gaily decorated and a delicious ham dinner was served. Following the dinner, Miss Shirleyann Hoy supervised the enter tainment which consisted of a miniature track meet. Ending the evening Miss Hoy conducted devotions concerning the race the Christian must run. Recent visitors at our services have been Mr. and Mrs. Paul Faris and fam ily. Mr. Faris, formerly of Barnet, Vt., is a student at Moody Bible Institute. Accompanying them were Miss Shields of Barnet, now in nurses training at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, Chicago, and Mr. James Faris, an elder in our Barnet congregation who was visiting his nephew. At a congregational supper Wednes day evening, February 17, the Sterling Congregation surprised the Pastor and family with what we thought a most ap propriate and generous gift of literally bushels of canned goods and kitchen supplies. But apparently the congrega tion was not satisfied with that, for when we reached home, Paul discovered a beautiful new Westinghouse refrig erator in the dining room, and many members of the congregation at hand just outside, to help us enjoy our first view of it. In the deep freeze compart ment there was even "cold We find it difficult to express ade quately our thanks and joy, for the con gregation had already responded to the need of the Church with a concerted and planned effort to make an additional contribution to Synod's Budget.
