on the radio program, "Know Your
Pastor"
over WDAF, Saturday morning,
March 26. He was interviewed by Rev.
J. Roy Smith, President of the Roan
oke Ministers' Association; the program
is sponsored by the K.C.
Council of
Churches. Dr. Robb, in a very interest
ing way, told about the work of our
church, not only here but at large,
bringing in what is so dear to our
hearts
the CAM. He also announced
the coming of the Genevans, and we
believe this resulted in the attendance of
some additional strangers.
The Genevans arrived promptly, early
in the evening of March 31, and were
all ready
for the dinner served at 6:00
o'clock by the ladies of the Roanoke
Presbyterian Church. The Concert was
excellent. We were glad to have these
fine young
people with us they
are a
credit to the college. The Olathe con
gregation were with us
part of the expense.
and covered
Dr. Paul Coleman is not improving.
He enjoyed having his sister here again
and not only did she cheer him up but
was a good lift to Mrs. Coleman and
Betty. When Mrs. George was here
several months ago, she attended our
WMS meeting and gave us much inter
esting information regarding the Aged
People's Home. Dr. and Mrs. John Cole
man were also here for a short visit
on their way to and from Topeka. Mrs.
Coleman attended one of our WMS
meetings.
Don Weimer's parents also
visited in their home on their way West
to visit another son.
April 17, our Pastor assisted in Com
munion in the Lake Reno congregation
at Glennwood, Minn. Mrs. Robb accom
panied him.
Dr. Robb gave a children's message
April 3, wonderfully illustrated with
chemicals.
The Psalms are being broadcast over
the Billy
Graham "Hour of
Decision"
program since the beginning of the
Glasgow campaign and we presume that
some of our people have heard the 1200
voice choir sing the 23rd and 24th
Psalms.
Mrs. Harold Ward is Junior Superin
tendent with Miss Margaret Hall as
sisting her in the work.
FIRST BEAVER FALLS
We are glad to have Mr. Norman
Javens Sr. back to worship with us after
his illness in the Hospital.
Mr. Adam Wissner has been ill since
January. Although discharged from the
hospital, he is not well enough to at
tend church. We miss him as one of the
choir and his regular attendance at the
services.
Mrs. Mildred Hill and Mrs. Virginia
Nahas were the hostesses for the March
meeting of the Hilltop Missionary Cir
cle. Mrs. Winnifred Elliott led devo
tions and gave a book review on our
mission study book, "Queen of the Dark
Chambers."
Officers for the coming year
are:
President, Mrs. Florence Ramsey; Vice
President, Mrs. Virginia Nahas; Secre
tary, Mrs. Anna Lane; Treasurer, Mrs.
Chloe Adams.
Our congregation has been saddened
by the deaths of Mrs. William George
and Mrs. George Klingensmith. Our
sympathy goes to the families of these
faithful members.
The Joy Class entertained their fami
lies at a covered dish dinner. Films and
feates of magic performed by Rev. and
Mrs. Elliott were the highlights of the
evening.
Jimmy Boyce has been hospitalized
twice this year with a bone disease in
his legs. Our prayer is that God will
heal him so that he will walk without
crutches.
Mrs. Charles Belles is recovering from
an eye operation in a Pittsburgh hos
pital.
WHITE LAKE
We were very happy to have the Rev.
Walter Magee and his family with us
for our Spring Communion Season. Mr.
Magee brought us some very helpful
messages from the Word of God.
It was a thrilling experience on Sab
bath, May 1, when two babies of the
congregation were presented for bap
tism. Those baptized were : Patricia Ann
Tacey, the daughter of Elder and Mrs.
Renwick F. Tacey; and George Allan
Bosch, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
H. Bosch.
Five of our ladies attended the Pres
byterial which was held at Cambridge
this year. They were Mrs. Daniel Bosch,
Mrs. George Norris, Mrs. Grace Weiss,
Mrs. Lena Van Kuren, and Miss Doro
thea Millen.
We are looking forward once again
to the unique conference which is plan
ned primarily for adult Covenanters.
The New York Presbytery's Adult Bible
Conference is to be held at the White
Lake Camp during the last week in July.
Judging from the past conferences, it
will be a Christian experience of great
value.
HOT SPRINGS
The end of March saw one of our
members leaving for Philadelphia. Miss
Dolly Everett, a faithful worker both in
the Sabbath School and Clinic, has
gone to be with her sister-in-law, Mrs.
Margaret Everett, and her two children.
We hope that Dolly will find it possible
to return to us again.
The spring communion
season was
observed on April 8 through 10.
We
were sorry that not all of our members
could be present, due to distance or
sickness. Elder and Mrs. John Dale Russel
were unable to be present as they had
hoped, due to the serious illness of Dr.
Russell which necessitated hospitaliza
tion and surgery. We understand that he
is slowly on the road to recovery.
The Rev. Mr. Paul Faris and family
visited in the home of The Rev. Mr.
and Mrs. Boyd White en route to their
home in Qinter, Kansas from Phoenix,
Arizona, where Mr. Faris assisted with
Communion.
We were happy to have Miss Eliza
beth McElroy with us for our prayermeeting
hour, April 27. She gave us a
very interesting and inspiring message
on our Mission Work in Syria.
At our congregational meeting, April 1,
our retiring chairman, Mr. Albert Cun
ningham, handed over the gavel to our
new chairman, Mrs. James Lucas.
UNITED PHILADELPHIA
It was a church social, Friday April
29, and the congregation gathered for
lots of fun. When Martha Jilek and Jim
Hartin arrived the entire group greeted
them singing "Here Comes the Bride."
They were escorted to a specially pre
pared place, and there beneath a para
sol
(which they used occasionally to
hide their blushes) they accepted a
large basket of gifts. Amid much fun
and laughter the gifts were opened.
Practical, decorative, and altogether
lovely they were. Two gifts brought
much attention, a box of bandaids and a
rolling pin well-padded with toweling.
You would never guess who from Jack
Peoples. (Dr. John) Why
A beautifully decorated cake and re
freshments were served.
Games were
played. We all felt "a merry heart doeth
good like a medicine"
MORNING SUN
(Prov. 17:22).
The Morning Sun Young People's So
ciety enjoyed a social at the parsonage.
Mrs. Ralph Todd is hostess to WMS.
Leaders are Mrs. McMurtry for devo
tions, and Mrs. McElroy for mission
study.
The men dug out the parsonage drain,
so the kitchen drain could be connected,
not such a big job, but a news item when
that many men stop their plowing in
April. McElroys provided refreshments.
Mrs. Fred Johnson, Mrs. Robt. Dick
son and Mrs. McElroy will be teachers
in the Daily Vacation Bible School
May 23-June 3. Others will help on the
serving committees.
David Armstrong is valedictorian of
the Morning Sun High school seniors.
