wheels in it. If you break every wheel,
it is a broken watch and worthless. But
even if only one wheel is broken, the
watch is useless. It cannot fulfill its
purpose. Or if you were hanging over
a precipice by a chain of ten links, the
results would be the same, whether
every link in the chain were smashed
or only
one link. So the Royal law is
a unity. All of us have sinned. And if
we offend in one point we are guilty of
all. So we are more than "little sin
of one sin! How little do we
realize the enormity
of our sin! "But
where sin abounded, grace did much
more abound."
This Royal Law Is a Law of Liberty
(James 2:12)
James has already spoken of the per
fect law of liberty (1:25). This may
have been one of his favorite expres
sions and how very
pression is
suggestive this ex
the law of liberty. In what
respects is the Royal law a law of lib
erty If we could keep this royal law
perfectly
then we would love the Lord
our God with all our heart, and with
all our soul and with all our mind and
we would love our neighbor as our
(Matt. 22:37-39).
Christ said, "A new commandment I
give unto you, That ye love one another;
as I have loved you, that ye also love
one
another"
(John 13:34-35). How
much bondage is there in this kind of
love So if we really loved we would not
be bound by sin. And yet we are bound
by the sin of selfishness, pride, envy,
malice and every
other sin. John says,
"Whosoever hateth his brother is a mur
derer"
I John 3:15. Even though a mur
derer is not apprehended, how much
freedom does he have How wonder
fully true it is that the law of love is
the law of liberty. "I will walk at liber
ty; for I seek thy
A Thought for you
Put on the wnole armor of God.
Eph. 6:11
Trying to face life without this armor
we get burned, blinded, bewildered, de
feated. But what a difference when we
put on the whole armor
Church News
DENISON
Our church was hostess to the com
munity on the World Day of Prayer.
Rev. Sam Boyle brought a message
in the afternoon meeting on "Twilight or
Sunrise in Missions in Asia." Mrs. Albert
McCrory presented a Bible study from
John 15. Different elements of prayer
were emphasized by
a large number of
Bible verses. There was wide participa
tion by women from all the churches.
Lunch was served at noon in the new,
nearly completed basement.
Rev. Sam Boyle brought stirring mes
sages on the Great Commission and
Communism, February 27. His mother
accompanied him from Topeka.
City
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Faris of Kansas
and Miss Elva Mann of Hebron
were welcome visitors also on this day.
Miss Mary McCrory is gradually re
covering after undergoing major surgery
in the Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka
on February 14.
WINCHESTER, KANS.
The Young People had a chili supper
at the Huston home on January 24. At
a business meeting later the following
officers were elected: President, Dick
Hensleigh; vice-president, Frances Hus
ton; Secretary-Treasurer, Hazel White.
The congregation was saddened by the
death of R. Boyd Cathcart on January
30. Although he had not been well for
sometime, he had been at his duties as
a member of the Kansas State College
animal husbandry
1) loins girt with truth
2) having
eousness
staff until a short
on the breastplate of right
3) your feet shod with the preparation
of Gospel of peace
4) taking the shield of faith that ye
shall be able
5) take the helmet of salvation
6) the sword of the spirit which is the
word of God
7) THAT SECRET WEAPON-praying
always in the Spirit.
Note: For many
years this has been a
much loved gem but only recently was
my attention called to that last weapon
(giving credit to Rev. Joe Caskey) whicn
adds so much to the effectiveness of the
Gospel armor.
address: Mrs. Herald Hanna, Rt. 10,
Bloomington, Indiana.
time before his passing. Funeral services
were held at the First Methodist Church
in Manhattan. Rev. Caskey assisted in
this service and the trio sang. The
church extends its sympathy to his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Cathcart of
Winchester, and to his wife, Ermine, and
daughters, Marilyn, Ruth, Carol of
the home.
Rev. Caskey and the trio, Minnie Belle
and Hazel White and Barbara Huston,
conduct a short service at the Barton
Nursing Home in Winchester every
other Sabbath afternoon.
THE COVENANTER HOME
Mr. Paul Robb, a senior in our Sem
inary, preached at the Home on Sab
bath afternoon, February 20. Our Home
folks appreciated the sermon so very
much. It is always a joy to them to
have Paul with them. Thank you, Paul.
Prayer meeting was conducted at the
Home on Wednesday evening, February
23, by Donald McClurkin and Glenn Mc
Farland. How much it means for these
folks to hear our ministers-to-be! The
prayer meeting was splendid.
Once a month we have preaching serv
ice at the Home on Sabbath afternoon,
and prayer meeting on a Wednesday eve
ning. These are for those who are not
able to get to church the shut-ins and
also all those who wish to come in. All
who are able enjoy these services very
much. On other Sabbaths they who are
not able to get out to church must de
pend upon their radios for sermons.
The Troy Hill Girl Scout Troop under
the direction of Mrs.
Walleck enter
tained the members of the Home with
a musical program and readings on Val
entine's Day, February 14.
They had
made red hearts and filled them with
cookies, and candies and a little packet
of sachet for each member. The folks
thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment
put on by these young girls.
Everyone at the Home is in his or her
usual health with the exception of Miss
Janet Barclay who is in the hospital un
der observation.
Again, we ask the church to pray for
the Home, its workers, members, and
the Board. We ask especially for prayers
for the Building Committee that they
will be directed in their work, and that
the church and friends will be moved by
His Spirit "to give till they
toward this necessary and worthy phase
of His work.
