Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Prayer Meeting Topic Cont. from pg 333
ment was against the prince of this
world and gave the Holy Spirit the
means of convincing the world of judg
ment.
Through the centuries the Spirit has
convinced many of judgment and led
them to choose the reproach of Christ
before the pleasure and honor of this
world. To this day He convinces many
more of the blessing of serving Christ
for His rewards, rather than the world
for those which it offers (Matthew 6:
24).
From THE SECRET OF EFFEC
TIVE PRAYER
by Helen Smith Shoemaker
(Fleming H. Revell Company)
If evil were stronger than God, He
would never have sent His Son to show
us how to overcome it. God in His wis
dom knew that evil could be defeated.
God in the person of His Son faced the
cruel facts of evil and pain and death
unflinchingly for us. The crucifixion was
the seeming triumph of evil, and God
allowed it, but the resurrection was
God's secret weapon and with it He tri
umphed by demonstrating His power to
replace evil, suffering, and death with
the creative force of love and life. The
resurrection tells more about God and
His power to overcome evil than any
other event in history.
Clerk of Session
The death of Mary Kenwill recalls an
episode of sixty years ago. A group of
eleven-year olds in a schoolroom were
discussing the merits of their respective
churches. Mary, whose family belonged
to Central Allegheny, stoutly maintained
the superiority of the Covenanter
Church (she did not call it Reformed
Presbyterian). Mary had something that
lasted. Arthur W. Calhoun, Sterling.
