CLARINDA
Mr. J. Ren Lee has had several rela
tives visiting him helping him recuper
ate from his recent 10 days in the hos
pital. His sister Mrs. Paul Paddock and
husband from Marshalltown, Iowa,
spent Memorial Day week-end with Mr.
Lee and Gertrude. William Boyd Berggren
from Omaha spent two weeks with
his great uncle Mr. Lee and attended
the Covenanter D.V.B. school. Mary
Alice Price from Hollywood, California,
spent a week with her uncle Mr. Lee
on her way to the 25th reunion of her
class at Parsons College. During her
visit the Sabbath School Class that she
belonged to when she lived in Clarinda
entertained at a party
in her honor.
There were 35 guests who spent a very
happy hilarious evening reviewing old
friendship.
ESKRIDGE
Alice Mable Caskey,
youngest mem
ber of the Eskridge congregation, ac
companied her parents, Rev. and Mrs.
Joseph Caskey
to Beaver Falls where
she will get acquainted with her ma
ternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hill,
attends Synod.
while her daddy
The Evangelical churches of Eskridge
held their D.V.B.S. this year, the last
two weeks of May.
Rev. Joe Caskey was Superintendent.
Transportation was furnished for all
who could attend. Many
people in the
community worked hard and faithfully
to help make this school a success.
Some, who have never been associated
with any church helped with this work.
Busy housewives and mothers did
their washings in the afternoon so they
could teach classes.
Eugene
Stevenson and Roy Carson
were chosen by the Kiwanis club to be
guests for a week at a boys camp in
Wichita the first week of June.
Mrs. Myrtle McDowell spent a few
days in Research Hospital, Kansas City,
recently and come home much improved,
for which we are all very thankful.
Ross Latimer is attending Synod in
Beaver Falls, Pa.
We enjoyed the Louis McCulleys from
Hutchinson worshiping with us recently.
David McKnight finishes his fourth
year at Manhattan this spring. He is
in the Veterinarian school so has two
more years before he gets his degree.
We always welcome him home on his
vacations.
THIRD CHURCH OF THE
COVENANTER
IN
PHILADELPHIA. PA.
The May meeting of
the Women's
Missionary Society was held in the
church with Mrs. Robert J. Crawford
leading the devotions on "The Architect
of Our Lives.'7 Following the devotional
June 29, 1955
period all went to the downstairs room
where a social was given in honor of
Mr.
and Mrs. Gene Spear and Carol
and Bruce. This wonderful little family
has worshiped with us while Gene was
making further study of God's Word in
preparation for the ministry in the
foreign field. Their faith and sincerity
of purpose have been an inspiration to
us
and their charm and friendliness
have endeared them to our hearts. We
are grateful to our Heavenly Father
that He blessed us with their presence
and we send them to their chosen field
in His Vineyard with our loving thank
ful prayers. A token gift of our affec
tion was
presented to them by the
Society president, Miss Jane McCleary.
We were glad that so many of the
United Congregation joined us in this
social hour. Gene occupied our pulpit
on the Sabbath before their departure
and gave us a memorable challenge to
deeper spiritual life and
service to our Lord.
more effective
The Mother's Day exercises in Sab
bath School included selected Scripture
readings of the Bible Mothers, with
comments by Mrs. Thomas Gill. Flower
ing plants were distributed at the close
of the exercises. An information talk
in Sabbath School about our Missions
in Syria preceded the offering taken for
the work there. Many
of our younger
Sabbajth School children have been at
tending morning worship recently the
incentive being credits to be earned in
anticipation of a trip to White Lake
Camp. For some time our teenage boys
have been serving the Lord in the sanc
tuary by assisting the deacons in the
collection of the tithes and offerings.
At the annual Congregational meeting
held May 10, encouraging
reports were
made by the various organizations of the
Church. Extensive repairs to the roof
were authorized; also the purchase of
more new Psalm Books. It was agreed
that special offerings for Synod's bud
get would be continued on the first
Sabbath of each month. The Pastor's
salary was increased retroactive to
April first. Mr. James Finlay was elect
ed to a three-year term as trustee
serving with Elder George J. Fisher and
church Treasurer Walter McClay.
Our minister's report to the congre
gation disclosed a very
active program
of pastoral visits, neighborhood visiting
(500 cards were distributed in 1954);
junior girls weekly meetings; Junior
boys club meetings; and teen-group de
votional and social meetings.
The sacrament of Baptism was ad
ministered to one adult and four chil
dren and there were three accessions to
church membership. The total church
membership of 67 remains the same as in
1954.
Mr. Price attended the meeting of
Presbytry held in Orlando, Florida, ac
companying Dr. and Mrs. McCracken
of the United Congregation.
Miss Isabel Crawford represented our
Women's Missionary Society at the
Presbyterial held in Orlando also.
We are thankful to our gracious God
for the recovery of several of our older
members.
Elder James MacKnight is
home again and slowly regaining his
strength. Miss Anna Taylor, recently
hospitalized, is now recuperating at the
home of her nephew William McClurken
in Hatboro, Pa. And our beloved Mrs.
Finley M. Wilson has shown some im
provement these past few weeks lean
ing heavily on the Great Physician for
strength and healing. Miss Matilda Walfert
who suffered the effects of a fall is
also now on the mend.
Our minister has begun a series of
sermons on the Ten Commandments by
refuting the prevailing present-day
theory that these laws of God are out
moded; were given exclusively for the
Jews; and are not necessary to our
times.
Visitors to our morning worship ser
vices
during May included Mr. Samuel
Jamison of our Home in Pittsburg, who
was the guest of Miss Annie Forsyth;
and serviceman Norman Hutcheson,
nephew of Dr. Finley M. Wilson; and
Mr. Robert Wilson, of Ocean City
HEBRON, KANSAS
Hebron Congregation greatly rejoices
that Rev. Milton Harrington has been
duly ordained and installed as our min
happy to have a large number of
friends who came to witness this serv
ice and welcome Rev. Harrington. We
were especially glad to make the ac
quaintance of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Har
other relatives of Rev. Harrington.
Spirit-filled messages and the bounti
