Obscuring <strong>of</strong> Bimodality <strong>of</strong> Responses by MRAT Centring<br />

Inspecting data from the USA, the MRAT centring process tends to obscure bimodality<br />

<strong>of</strong> distribution <strong>of</strong> responses. In Figure 4.20 for data from the USA Tradition <strong>and</strong><br />

Hedonism items we see for the item 18 raw scores, v18, a bimodal distribution with the<br />

mode at 3 <strong>and</strong> a peak at 5 <strong>and</strong> 6, <strong>and</strong> a more confused distribution <strong>of</strong> cv18, the centred<br />

scores. Item scores for c57 <strong>and</strong> cv57 show more congruent distributions <strong>of</strong> Likert scale<br />

selections.<br />
