Phragmatoecia castaneae Hubner is the dominant species of stem borer in
sugarcane in the Central and South of Vietnam. Observations on its biology were made
in the laboratory at an ambient temperature of approximately 29 0 C and a relative
humidity of approximately 76%.
Data are provided on the headwidths of larval instars and on the duration of the
immature stages. The mean duration of the life cycles from egg to adult was 97 days.
The average number of eggs laid per female was 328.
