INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE ON LIFE CYCLE OF INTERNODE
BORER CHILO SACCARIPHAGUS BOJER

The sugarcane internode borer Chilo saccariphagus Bojer is the most
dangerous insect pest in the South Vietnam at Present. The incidence on stalk of it has
reached 11.51% for two years recently (comparison with the incidence of 22.74% due
to whole six sugarcane borer species occur in the South Vietnam). By artificial diet,
we have reared and observed its life cycle at 6 different grades of temperatures: 15 o C,
17 o C, 20 o C, 25 o C, 30 o C and 35 o C. The results of this experiment show that
temperatures ranging from 17 o C – 30 o C is suitable for the developing if internode
borer. The life cycle fluctuate from 56 days to 204 days when it was reared at 30 o C to
17 o C. in addition, we have also observed measurement of seven instars of it, weight of
pupae (male and female) etc…
