2 Each participant writes his or her name and a statement or question on
which comment is invited.
3 He or she then writes his or her own response to the statement or
question on the same sheet.
4 The sheets are passed to other members of the subgroup who add their
own responses to the sheet. All writing should be completed in a
maximum of 30 minutes and should be done silently.
5 When complete, the original writer reads out the question and all the
responses to it, using it to generate discussion.
Benefits
The benefit of idea writing is as a diversion when the workshop leader
judges that the participants need some quiet time. It is particularly useful
in traditional 'low' sessions, such as after lunch, as it involves little
energetic activity but much thought.
