How to use
The first step is to identify the problem, situation or idea to be analysed.
Then ask a series of questions as given in Figure 1.
Benefits
This is/is not matrix allows the organization of knowledge and information
in a structured format. This allows data collection to be guided by prior
knowledge.
Example
A doctor is diagnosing a patient who has presented with mysterious pains
in hands and legs. The doctor uses the is/is not matrix as a guide to
diagnosis (Figure 2). The doctor concludes that the pains are stress related
and confirms the diagnosis by taking the patient's blood pressure.
