RAPID TECHNO-ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY REPORT FOR
DEVELOPMENT OF COLACHEL PORT AT TAMILNADU
FINAL REPORT
7. DOWNTIMES
Once the wave height has been calculated in each area for the cases under consideration, the next step is
to estimate the downtime for the proposed berths.
The limiting operational wave height considered for container vessels is 0.5m (forming an angle of +/- 45º
over the fore and aft centerline of the vessel) and 0.3 m in case of the wave hits crosswise, forming +/- 45
º with the transverse centre line of the vessel). These guidelines determine the maximum time period
permissible for not closing the berths, which turns out to be 200 hours per year.
The next figures show that the wave direction hits the areas forming an angle of +/- 45º over the fore and
aft centerline of the vessel, for this reason, the limiting operational wave height considered was Hs=0.5 m.
