3.4.5 PREPARATION OF 3-((UN) SUBSTITUTED 1, 3-BENZOTHIAZOL-2-<br />

YL IMINO)-1, 3-DIHYDRO-2H-INDOL-2-ONE<br />

It was prepared according to the method reported by Chohan et. al. f<br />

To a stirred solution of 0.01 mole of an appropriately substituted 2-amino<br />

benzothiazole in 50 ml warm ethanol was added 0.01 mole 1H-indole-2, 3dione<br />

in 60 ml ethanol. Then 2–3 drops of conc. sulphuric acid were added<br />

and the reaction mixture was refluxed for 4 hours. The progress and the<br />

completion of the reaction were checked by silica gel-G F254 thin layer<br />

chromatography using hexane : ethyl acetate (6 : 4) as a mobile phase. After<br />

the reaction to be completed, the flask was cooled to afford a solid product.<br />

The solid residue was filtered, washed with cold ethanol, then with ether and<br />

dried. Recrystallization was carried out from hot ethanol.<br />
