4. The focus groups conducted<br />

Group 1. East of Hungary:<br />

Ten high school students of a school of economics in Fehérgyarmat, including an unemployed<br />

young man attending a special course at the school, and a young man from the part of Ukraine<br />

inhabited by ethnic Hungarians (Kárpátalja).<br />

Group 2. Students:<br />

Ten university undergraduates and graduates in Budapest from various branches such as law,<br />

philosophy, natural sciences, sociology, foreign trade, engineering, language and<br />

anthropology.<br />

Group 3. Families:<br />

Two three generation families:<br />

Family 1.<br />

Anna, retired, living alone, spent a life working as an unskilled worker in wool industry for 35<br />

years<br />

Her daughter Ágnes, an interpreter<br />

Her grand daughter, Mirjam, 23, university undergraduate and part time journalist<br />

Family 2.<br />

Mária, retired, skilled electro-technician, worked as head of department of personal<br />

management, 80 years old<br />

Her son András, 53, literary historian<br />

Her grand son Bors, 25, freshly graduated sociologist<br />

Group 4. The politically active:<br />

Zsuzsa, used to be teacher, presently entrepreneur, used to be involved in liberal political<br />

movement<br />

Joli, retired, part time account consultant for a Budapest municipality, used to be active in the<br />

former communist party<br />

Andrea, teaches etiquette, used to be active both in liberal and conservative political<br />

movement, especially around the change of regime<br />

Antal, involved in management training, worked in the establishment of the first freely<br />

elected Hungarian government<br />

Zoltán, executive manager of a limited company dealing with property management, active in<br />

a rightist party and holds some position in the World Association of Hungarians.<br />

Group 5. The journalists:<br />

A senior journalist of the conservative national daily <strong>Magyar</strong> Nemzet (male)<br />

Journalist of the national economic daily Napi Gazdaság (male)<br />

Deputy editor-in-chief of the Hungarian mutation of the Cosmopolitan Magazine (female)<br />

Senior journalist of the liberal national daily <strong>Magyar</strong> Hírlap (female)<br />

Program manager of the Hungarian Radio (male)<br />
