I8: Interview mit Lina Ben Mhenni (englischer Part)
Hotel Africa. Donnerstag 18.08.2011
1. Frage: In what way is the internet different to any other classical forms of
communication?
• I think it is different, because it allows a quick dissemination of the information. On
Internet with a click you can spread information quickly whereas on newspaper
you have to buy the newspaper to read it. And it allows individuals to have a
network of friends. But at most it is the quick dissemination of information.
2. Frage: Do you have any inforation about how many people visit you blog and what kind
of people they are?
• No, I don't have a real interest in this. But for example I know that during the
events in the nights that I published the photos of five young people killed by the
police I had about 6000 readers. I think the average is about 500-1000 a day for
now.
3. Frage: In your blog do you use information that you get from friends, or other bloggers
that you are connectet with?
• Not really. Generally I go and find the information myself, I don't take them from
other people.
4. Frage: In what way have news, possibly from abroad an impact on the content of you
blog?
• If the information is coming from outside I check with bloggers. Generally I write
about the arab world. I have many friends, bloggers in different countries and the
arab world and check with them if the information is good.
During the revolution (if we call it a revolution) you saw yourself as a supplier of
information. In your book you wrote about the incidents that happened in Gafsa 2008
where protests came up, but did not spread since nobody knew about them. You imply
that if the Internet had been in the state as it is now a revolution might have already taken
place.
