1. Scope<br />

1.1 Products and Applications Included<br />

A structured cabling system is a complete collective configuration <strong>of</strong> cabling and associated hardware<br />

on a premises which, when installed properly, provides a comprehensive telecommunications<br />

infrastructure. This infrastructure is intended to support a wide range <strong>of</strong> telecommunications services<br />

in a converged environment such as voice, video and data networks.<br />

1.2 Responsibility<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Antonio</strong> (herein referred to as the <strong>City</strong>), In<strong>for</strong>mation Technology Services Department<br />

(ITSD) is responsible <strong>for</strong> the standards and management <strong>of</strong> the installation and maintenance <strong>of</strong><br />

structured cable systems <strong>for</strong> data and voice systems, also commonly referred to as low voltage cabling.<br />

1.3 Purpose<br />

<strong>The</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> this document is to provide guidelines <strong>for</strong> all aspects <strong>of</strong> the installation and<br />

maintenance <strong>of</strong> these cable systems in the various facilities owned and leased by the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>San</strong><br />

<strong>Antonio</strong>.<br />

Adherence to the standards described in this document is vital to providing services to the various city<br />

departments and citizens serviced by <strong>City</strong> communication networks.<br />
