5. Furnishing and equipment <strong>for</strong> pre-kindergarten age children must<br />

include at least the following (§746.2605):<br />

Interest centers, such as dramatic play, block building, stories<br />

and books, science and nature activities, art and music activities,<br />

sensory and problem-solving activities. <strong>The</strong>se interest centers<br />

must be clearly defined, organized <strong>for</strong> independent use by children<br />

and arranged so the children’s activities are visible to the<br />

caregiver.<br />

Age-appropriate seating, tables and nap or rest equipment.<br />

Enough popular items available so that children are not <strong>for</strong>ced<br />

to compete <strong>for</strong> them.<br />

Containers or low shelving available so items children can safely<br />

use without direct supervision are accessible to children.<br />

6. Supervised sleep or rest period after the noon meal must be provided<br />

<strong>for</strong> all children who are in care <strong>for</strong> five or more consecutive<br />

hours (§746.2901). Napping equipment must be arranged in a<br />

manner which does not block entrances/exits, interfere with children’s<br />

activity areas, limit the circulation path or does not allow<br />

<strong>for</strong> the caregiver to adequately supervise all children in the group<br />

(§746.2909). <strong>The</strong> room is allowed to be darkened as long as adequate<br />

lighting is provided to allow <strong>for</strong> visual supervision <strong>of</strong> the children<br />

at all times (§746.2911).<br />

7. All children must be served regular meals and morning and afternoon<br />

snacks (§746.3301). Children in care <strong>for</strong> four to seven hours<br />

are to be provided either one meal or one meal and one snack, equal<br />

to 1/3 <strong>of</strong> their daily food needs (§746.3303). All food and drinks<br />

must be <strong>of</strong> safe quality and must be stored, prepared, distributed<br />

and served under sanitary and safe conditions, including, but not<br />

limited to the following (§746.3316):<br />

<strong>San</strong>itize food service equipment, dishes and utensils after each<br />

use.<br />

If no facilities existing <strong>for</strong> sanitizing dishes and utensils, provide<br />

only disposable, single-use items.<br />

Wash re-usable napkins, bibs and tablecloths after every use.<br />

Discard single-service napkins, bibs, dishes and utensils after use.<br />

Serve children’s food on plates,napkins or other sanitary holders.<br />

No food shall be placed on a bare table or eating surface,<br />

including the floor.<br />

All food stored in the refrigerator must be covered.<br />
