4. Terminate Category 5e four-pair horizontal cable in eight-pin modular jacks at the<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation outlet. Eight pin modular jacks shall have insulation displacement terminals<br />

and terminated to comply with the T568A wiring configuration.<br />

5. Eight-Position Jack Pin/Pair Assignments (Designation T568A)<br />

Pair One Pins 4/5 White-Blue/Blue<br />

Pair Two Pins 3/6 White-Orange/Orange<br />

Pair Three Pins 1/2 White-Green/Green<br />

Pair Four Pins 7/8 White-Brown/Brown<br />

6. For wall-mounted telephones, terminate cable in modular jack with wall-plate <strong>for</strong><br />

mounting telephone instrument.<br />

7. Contractor shall observe the bending radius and pulling strength requirements <strong>of</strong> the 4-<br />

pair UTP cable during handling and installation.<br />

8. All horizontal cabling shall be installed in conduit and/or cable tray. Cable from the tray<br />

to the wall outlet shall be routed in conduit.<br />

9. Contractor shall install sufficient slack in cable to prevent cable service wear and to allow<br />

<strong>for</strong> access and service <strong>of</strong> the cabling system. Provide a minimum 12 inches <strong>of</strong> slack at the<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation outlet and 1 meter <strong>of</strong> slack at the patch panel or termination block.<br />

10. Slack behind faceplate shall be pulled back into raceway to prevent damage to<br />

connectors.<br />

11. Every ef<strong>for</strong>t will be made to schedule the requirements under this Contract in such a<br />

manner so as to complete all above ceiling work prior to ceiling tile installation. In the<br />

event the Contractor is required to remove ceiling tiles, such work shall not break or<br />

disturb grid and must be coordinated with the General Contractor.<br />

12. Velcro cable ties shall be used on Cat 5E and Cat 6 UTP cables.<br />

D. Pull Strings<br />

1. Initial pull strings in riser conduits shall be provided by the Division 16 electrical<br />

contractor.<br />

2. Contractor shall re-install pull strings in all riser conduits that have capacity <strong>for</strong> additional<br />

cables.<br />

3. Contractor shall install pull strings in all inner duct.<br />

E. Cable Labeling<br />

1. Install cable labels on both ends <strong>of</strong> horizontal cable. Labels shall remain intact after<br />

termination.<br />

F. Miscellaneous Equipment<br />

1. Contractor must provide any necessary screws, anchors, clamps, tie wraps, distribution<br />

rings, wire molding, miscellaneous grounding and support hardware, necessary to provide<br />

a pr<strong>of</strong>essional and complete installation <strong>of</strong> the System.<br />

G. Special Equipment and Tools<br />

1. It shall be the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the Contractor to furnish any special installation<br />

equipment or tools necessary to properly complete the System. This may include, but is<br />

not limited to, tools <strong>for</strong> terminating cables, testing and splicing equipment <strong>for</strong><br />

copper/fiber cables, jack stands <strong>for</strong> cable reels, cable wenches, personnel lifts and test<br />

equipment.<br />
