7. Backbone Cabling Standard<br />

7.1 General<br />

7.1.1 Summary<br />

A. This section includes the Backbone Cabling standard <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Pre</strong>mise Distribution System <strong>for</strong><br />

the <strong>City</strong> Of <strong>San</strong> <strong>Antonio</strong>.<br />

B. Section Includes but is not limited to:<br />

1. Fiber Optic Riser Cable – Single-Mode<br />

2. Fiber Optic Riser Cable – Multimode<br />

3. Fiber Optic Termination Hardware<br />

4. Multi-Pair Copper Riser Cable<br />

5. Multi-Pair Copper Riser Termination Hardware<br />

7.2 Products<br />

7.2.1 Fiber Optic Cable – General<br />

A. Fiber optic cable segments shall be comprised <strong>of</strong> individual multimode and single-mode<br />

fiber optic cables. Composite cables with multimode and single-mode in a common sheath shall<br />

not be used.<br />

B. Cables shall be UL Listed as Optical Fiber Non Conductive Riser (OFNR)<br />

C. Cables shall be marked as required by national and local electrical codes.<br />

D. Individual fibers shall be color coded <strong>for</strong> identification. <strong>The</strong> color-coding shall be in<br />

accordance with EIA/TIA-598 Color Coding <strong>of</strong> fiber Optic Cables.<br />

7.2.2 Fiber Optic Riser Cable – Single-Mode<br />

A. Fibers shall comply with EIA/TIA 492CAAA Standards<br />

B. Characteristics<br />

1. Nominal core diameter <strong>of</strong> 7um and a cladding diameter <strong>of</strong> 125um.<br />

2. Maximum attenuation: 0.4 dB/km @ 1310 nm and 0.3 dB/km @ 1550 nm.<br />

3. Fibers shall have D-LUX ® coating or approved equivalent to ensure color retention,<br />

minimize micro-bending losses and improve handling. <strong>The</strong> coating shall be mechanically<br />

strippable.<br />
