Air conditioners, electric fans and heaters must be mounted<br />

out <strong>of</strong> all children’s reach or have safeguards that keep any child<br />

from being injured.<br />

Glass in sliding doors must be clearly marked with decals or<br />

other materials placed at children’s eye level.<br />

Play materials and equipment must be safe and free from sharp<br />

or rough edges and toxic paints.<br />

Poisonous or potentially harmful plants must be inaccessible<br />

to children.<br />

All storage chests, boxes, trunks or similar items with hinged<br />

lids must be equipped with a lid support designed to hold the<br />

lid open in any position, be equipped with ventilation holes and<br />

must not have a latch that might close and trap a child inside.<br />

All bodies <strong>of</strong> water (ie. pools, hot tubs, ponds, creeks, birdbaths,<br />

fountains, buckets, rain barrels) must be inaccessible to<br />

all children.<br />

15. Although permissible, it is not required to have a video or audio<br />

monitoring system (§746.3705). Closed circuit video surveillance<br />

is desired at all building entries, outdoor play areas and in interior<br />

hallways and corridors. Video feed will be stored on digital<br />

video recorders and servers housed in the building MDF/IDF<br />

room. Quantity and location <strong>of</strong> servers to be directed by ITSD.<br />

All recorded footage shall be capable <strong>of</strong> being accessed remotely<br />

by ITSD or other authorized individual(s).<br />

16. Medication to be administered to children is to be stored out <strong>of</strong><br />

the reach <strong>of</strong> children or in locked storage, in a manner which does<br />

not contaminate food and refrigerated, if required, separately from<br />

food (§746.3807). As a Nurse’s Office has been provided as part <strong>of</strong><br />

this program, it is intended that any children’s medication will be<br />

stored in this location and administered by this individual. Records<br />

<strong>of</strong> administered medication must be maintained <strong>for</strong> at least three<br />

months (§746.3805).<br />

17. One first-aid kit must be available in each building at the child-care<br />

center, stored in an easily accessible and designated area, known to<br />

all employees, which is out <strong>of</strong> the reach <strong>of</strong> children (§746.4001).<br />

18. Children may only be released to a parent or a person designated<br />

by the parent (§746.4101). <strong>The</strong> child-care facility will be responsible<br />

<strong>for</strong> developing policies regarding the release <strong>of</strong> children, including<br />

the verification <strong>of</strong> identity <strong>of</strong> authorized individuals. Policies must<br />

include a reasonable means to record the identity <strong>of</strong> the individual,<br />

such as a copy <strong>of</strong> a valid photo identification, instant photograph<br />

<strong>of</strong> the individual, or recording <strong>of</strong> the driver’s license and car tag<br />
