This curriculum is designed for students desiring to apply for entry<br />
into the pr<strong>of</strong>essional curricula in Cardiopulmonary Science (Respiratory<br />
Therapy/Cardiovascular Technology) <strong>of</strong>fered through the LSU<br />
Health Sciences Center. The degree program provides education and<br />
training in the areas <strong>of</strong> prevention, diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation<br />
<strong>of</strong> people with heart and lung disorders. In addition, the<br />
baccalaureate therapist and technologist is a potential educator or<br />
supervisor in cardiopulmonary departments. To be eligible for admission<br />
to the program, a student must complete a minimum <strong>of</strong> 60 credit<br />
hours as specified below.<br />

PRE-PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT CURRICULUM<br />
The prerequisites listed below are designed to prepare the student<br />
for entry into the Physician Assistant program <strong>of</strong>fered through the<br />
LSU Health Sciences Center on the Shreveport campus. Admission into<br />
the program is competitive. Applicants must complete the 60 hours <strong>of</strong><br />
prerequisite courses with a minimum grade point average <strong>of</strong> 2.75 and<br />
must have 80 hours <strong>of</strong> direct patient health care experience. Students<br />
admitted into the program will complete 27 months <strong>of</strong> academic and<br />
clinical experiences designed to prepare physician assistants to provide<br />
comprehensive health care to patients under the supervision <strong>of</strong><br />
a physician. Upon successful completion <strong>of</strong> the program, students are<br />
awarded the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Physician Assistant.<br />
