Education and Habilitative Services or consent <strong>of</strong> department. An<br />

examination <strong>of</strong> the leadership roles for a researcher within special<br />

Prerequisites: EDSP 7010, 7015, 7020, and 7025 and doctoral student<br />

standing in the Department <strong>of</strong> Special Education and Habilitative<br />

Service or consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Advanced study <strong>of</strong> the roles<br />

and issues related to personnel preparation, research, and systems<br />

intervention in the field <strong>of</strong> special education and habilitative<br />

services.<br />

This course is taken prior to admission to the teacher education<br />

program. It is an introduction to the teacher education program,<br />

and it is open to students who might be considering education as<br />

their major. It focuses on several topics: teaching as a career, key<br />

roles assumed by educators, effective teaching, school effectiveness,<br />

critical issues associated with schooling in the 21st century, and the<br />

framework <strong>of</strong> the UNO Teacher Education Program.<br />

EDUC 1100 Eff Teacher Communication<br />

1 cr.<br />

This course is designed to provide opportunities for students interested<br />

in careers in education to demonstrate effective oral, written,<br />

and technological communication skills. Consideration <strong>of</strong> accommodation<br />

<strong>of</strong> differences and relationships in languages, dialects,<br />

and cultural backgrounds will also be included.<br />

EDUC 2000 Meeting Needs <strong>of</strong> All Learners<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDUC 1000 or concurrent enrollment in EDUC 1000.<br />

This course, the first in a three-course series (EDUC 2000, 3000,<br />

and 4000), serves to introduce education majors to a broad range<br />

<strong>of</strong> topics designed to facilitate their work as teachers <strong>of</strong> diverse<br />

learners in diverse settings. This course, as well as the two courses<br />

that follow in this series, will be presented in three modules: 1)<br />

School Structures and Educational Philosophy, 2) Diversity, and 3)<br />

Technology. Field experience is required in this course.<br />

EDUC 2100 Child & Adolescent Development<br />

3 cr.<br />

This course is taken prior to admission to the teacher education<br />

program. This course presents a balance <strong>of</strong> research findings, theory,<br />

and application relevant to the study <strong>of</strong> child development<br />

from infancy through adolescence, as developmental stages and<br />

tasks are relevant to classroom teachers. The emphasis throughout<br />

the course is on the implications and use <strong>of</strong> developmental information<br />

in classrooms.<br />

EDUC 2200 Principles Teaching Learning<br />

3 cr.<br />

This course will engage teacher candidates in discussions and<br />

activities dealing with fundamental aspects <strong>of</strong> educational philosophies,<br />

learning styles and theories, classroom management, assessment,<br />

curriculum development and lesson planning, and Louisiana<br />

state benchmarks and standards. Attention will focus on adapting<br />

instruction to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> diverse learners and the roles <strong>of</strong><br />

educators in effective schools.<br />

EDUC 3000 Mt Needs <strong>of</strong> All Learners II<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDUC 2000 and acceptance into Tier III <strong>of</strong> the teacher<br />

education program. This course, the second in a three-course series,<br />

serves to give education majors an opportunity to improve and<br />

apply the skills required for addressing the needs <strong>of</strong> diverse learners<br />

in diverse settings. This course, as well as the two other courses<br />

in this series, will be presented in three modules: 1)School Structures<br />

and Educational Philosophy, 2) Diversity, and 3) Technology.<br />

Field experience is required in this course.<br />

EDUC 3100 Diff Curriculum & Instruc<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: Admission into Tier III and concurrent enrollment<br />

in EDSP 3001, the one-hour field experience. This course focuses<br />

on differentiating strategies to diagnose learner needs, adapt and<br />

modify curriculum materials, plan and implement instruction,<br />

develop assignments, and evaluate learning outcomes.<br />

Prerequisites: Acceptance into Tier III. This course focuses on classroom<br />

management within school settings. It includes procedures<br />

for group behavior management, strategies for assessing and<br />

responding to individual student behavior, using a problem-solving<br />

approach for changing behavior, and supporting appropriate<br />

behaviors in learning activities and settings.<br />
