Minor in Finance:<br />
Students wishing to minor in Finance may do so by completing the<br />
following required courses and electives with a grade <strong>of</strong> C or better<br />
in each course: Finance 3300, 3302, 4304 plus nine hours <strong>of</strong> Finance<br />
electives.<br />
Honors in Finance:<br />
To graduate with honors in Finance, the student must fulfill the<br />
following requirements in addition to the usual requirements for a<br />
major:<br />
1. a minimum cumulative grade-point average <strong>of</strong> 3.5 in finance<br />
courses and a 3.25 grade-point overall;<br />
2. at least six hours <strong>of</strong> honors coursework in finance;<br />
3. a senior honors thesis or project in Finance 3099. The thesis or<br />
project is to be determined by mutual agreement with the student,<br />
a faculty member who will supervise the project, and a departmental<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> Honors Committee. The student<br />
will perform satisfactorily on an examination defending the thesis<br />
or project. Six hours <strong>of</strong> thesis credit must be completed.<br />

Administration Mission<br />
The Lester E. Kabac<strong>of</strong>f School <strong>of</strong> Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism<br />
Administration (HRT) strives to provide HRT graduates with the skills<br />
and background which will prepare them for entry level management<br />
positions within the hospitality and tourism industries. Students have<br />
the ability to custom design their curricula by selecting HRT concentrations<br />
and business minors. Graduates will obtain a solid business<br />
background as well as a comprehensive understanding <strong>of</strong> the tourism<br />
and hospitality industries.<br />

Students may elect to take a nine credit hour concentration plus<br />
one Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism three credit hour elective. Students,<br />
if they wish, may elect a concentration in Tourism; Convention and<br />
Event Management; Hotel and Lodging Management; or Food and Beverage<br />
Management by completing the appropriate Hotel, Restaurant<br />
and Tourism courses as their Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism electives.<br />
Tourism: Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism 2050, 3150, 3290 or 3295<br />
or 4250.<br />
Convention and Event Management: Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism<br />
2070, 3290 or 3295 or 4290.<br />
Hotel and Lodging Management: Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism<br />
2020, 4120, 3290 or 3295 or 4290. It is recommended that students<br />
take Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism 3141 as one <strong>of</strong> their business core<br />
electives.<br />
Food and Beverage Management: Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism<br />
3141, 3145, 3290 or 3295, 4230. It is recommended that students take<br />
Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism 3141 and either Hotel, Restaurant and<br />
Tourism 3150, 3240, 3290, 4110, 4120, 4155, 4160, 4165, 4250, or 4290 as<br />
their business core electives.<br />
Minor in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Administration<br />
Students must complete 18 credit hours in Hotel, Restaurant, and<br />
Tourism Administration with a letter grade <strong>of</strong> C or better in all courses<br />
as follows: Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism 2000, six credit hours at the<br />
2000 level, 2020, 2030, 2050, and 2070, plus nine credit hours at the<br />
3000- or 4000-level.<br />
Honors in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration<br />
To graduate with honors in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration,<br />
the following requirements must be fulfilled:<br />
1. Completion <strong>of</strong> the requirements for a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Hotel,<br />
Restaurant, and Tourism Administration.<br />
2. Maintain a cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong> at least 3.5 in the<br />
Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Administration courses, and a<br />
minimum overall grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.25.<br />
3. Completion <strong>of</strong> a Senior Honors Thesis, which includes earning six<br />
hours <strong>of</strong> credit for Senior Honors Thesis.<br />
a. Arrange for a faculty member in the relevant discipline to<br />
direct the thesis.<br />
b. Receive approval from the director <strong>of</strong> the Honors Program to<br />
register for Senior Thesis credit.<br />
c. Register for the course hours required by the School <strong>of</strong> Hotel,<br />
Restaurant, and Tourism Administration for Senior Honors<br />
Thesis.<br />
d. Give an oral defense <strong>of</strong> the thesis to a committee composed<br />
<strong>of</strong> the thesis director, a member <strong>of</strong> the faculty selected by<br />
the director <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism<br />
Administration, and a representative <strong>of</strong> the Honors Program.<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Management<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Management Mission<br />
The Department <strong>of</strong> Management is dedicated to the development <strong>of</strong><br />
managerial skills–analytical and interpersonal–which will enable students<br />
to succeed in a competitive international workplace. The department’s<br />
primary mission, therefore, is to provide quality management<br />
education for undergraduate and graduate students by utilizing current<br />
management thought incorporated in an experience-based learning<br />
environment. A second component <strong>of</strong> the department’s mission is<br />
the pursuit <strong>of</strong> a balanced approach that encourages and rewards both<br />
applied and basic research. Finally, the Department <strong>of</strong> Management<br />
faculty is committed to training and development at all levels <strong>of</strong> organizational<br />
life as part <strong>of</strong> its applied curriculum.<br />
