Metropolitan College<br />

The Metropolitan College at UNO was created to meet the educational<br />
needs <strong>of</strong> adult citizens living and working in metropolitan <strong>New</strong><br />
<strong>Orleans</strong>. This unit has centralized administrative responsibility for<br />
all non-credit activities (both on and <strong>of</strong>f campus), all credit courses<br />
taught at <strong>of</strong>f-campus locations, all sunrise and weekend programs<br />
taught on campus, all electronically delivered courses (telecourse and<br />
compressed video), and all courses administered through International<br />
Study Programs.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> is an institutional member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> Continuing<br />
Education Association, the Association for Continuing Higher<br />
Education, and the National Community Education Association. These<br />
three pr<strong>of</strong>essional associations represent over 600 institutions <strong>of</strong><br />
higher learning in the United States and Canada.<br />
Division <strong>of</strong> Academic Extension<br />
The Division <strong>of</strong> Academic Extension, located on the Lakefront<br />
Campus, coordinates all <strong>of</strong>f-campus, weekend, sunrise, intersession,<br />
distance education (electronically delivered classes), and in-house<br />
credit programs. Credit classes are scheduled at times and locations<br />
convenient to adult students. Undergraduate and graduate courses are<br />
taught by UNO faculty at all on and <strong>of</strong>f-campus locations.<br />
The Division <strong>of</strong> Academic Extension provides academic advising<br />
for Special Students as well as career development and counseling<br />
services for non-traditional students and adults not enrolled in credit<br />
programs. The UNO Golden Ager Program is housed in the Division<br />
<strong>of</strong> Academic Extension. Persons over 65 years <strong>of</strong> age are exempt from<br />
payment <strong>of</strong> tuition for credit courses. Golden Agers are responsible<br />
for other fees (i.e., parking, technology, etc.). Special registration and<br />
advising for Golden Agers classified as Special Students are provided<br />
through Metropolitan College. In addition, the Division also coordinates<br />
noncredit courses for Career Planning, Personal Development,<br />
Lifestyle and Leisure, and Children’s Programs. The Career Planning<br />
and Assessment Center is housed in this Division.<br />
UNO Jefferson Center<br />
The UNO Jefferson Campus, located in the heart <strong>of</strong> Metairie at 3330<br />
North Causeway Boulevard, is UNO’s <strong>of</strong>f-campus center in Jefferson<br />
Parish. A variety <strong>of</strong> credit classes ranging from business, education,<br />
science, and liberal arts are <strong>of</strong>fered at this location. Telecommunication<br />
linkages with the main campus allow students to enroll in live<br />
courses <strong>of</strong>fered on the Lakefront Campus and viewed simultaneously<br />
at the Jefferson Campus. Non-credit lifestyle and leisure as well as<br />
self-improvement and personal development classes are also available<br />
at the Jefferson Campus.<br />
The Career Planning and Assessment Center, which is located at<br />
the Jefferson Campus, conducts classes, workshops, and seminars in<br />
career planning. The Center provides students with occupational and<br />
vocational resource information. To keep up with today’s changing<br />
technology in computers and s<strong>of</strong>tware applications, the Jefferson<br />
Campus also houses state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art microcomputer laboratories. The<br />
Jefferson Campus is also used for meetings and conference services.<br />
The 21 plus spacious classrooms and conference areas are used for<br />
seminars and workshops for the UNO community, outside organizations,<br />
and non-pr<strong>of</strong>it community groups. Easy access and convenient<br />
parking make the Jefferson Campus a practical educational asset to<br />
the Metairie area.<br />
UNO on the Northshore<br />
UNO conducts classes at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Hancock<br />
County, Mississippi. UNO is affiliated with the Stennis Center for<br />
Higher Learning which facilitates undergraduate and graduate education;<br />
as part <strong>of</strong> the Center, UNO and Mississippi institutions <strong>of</strong> higher<br />
education <strong>of</strong>fer a variety <strong>of</strong> curricula in science, engineering, social<br />
science, business, and industrial technologies. The UNO <strong>of</strong>fice at Stennis<br />
coordinates educational courses for students and advises those<br />
seeking graduate and undergraduate degrees. Course work for the<br />
master’s degree in physics, applied physics, computer science, engineering,<br />
geography, mathematics, earth and environmental sciences,<br />
and engineering management are <strong>of</strong>fered at Stennis. Also, a Ph.D. in<br />
Engineering and Applied Science is available. Students study and conduct<br />
research on site with a strong complement <strong>of</strong> science and engineering<br />
courses.<br />
Division <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development<br />
The Division <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development is responsible for the<br />
administration <strong>of</strong> all non-credit pr<strong>of</strong>essional development and workforce<br />
training programs and services <strong>of</strong>fered by Metropolitan College.<br />
Other major workforce and economic development activities<br />
include proposal writing and providing capacity-building services<br />
that enhance the abilities <strong>of</strong> business, government and other community<br />
organizations to operate effectively and grow within the<br />
regional economy. The Division <strong>of</strong>fers a diverse curriculum <strong>of</strong> training<br />
seminars, courses, certificate programs, and consulting services<br />
to develop, train, and enhance the skills <strong>of</strong> executives, managers, and<br />
other workforce employees in business, industry, and government<br />
