MANG 3099 Senior Honors Thesis<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department and<br />
Honors Program Director. Extended and original research paper<br />
upon a topic <strong>of</strong> current concern in management under direction<br />
<strong>of</strong> a faculty member. Section number will correspond with credit<br />
to be earned.<br />
MANG 3401 Intro to Mgmt & Org Behavior<br />
3 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. Prerequisites: ACCT 2100 and ECON 1203 or<br />
1200. An examination <strong>of</strong> management practices, behavioral implications<br />
and organizational systems from the perspective <strong>of</strong> classical<br />
and contemporary theory.<br />
MANG 3402 Operation & Systems Management<br />
3 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. Prerequisites: Management 3401 and Mathematics<br />
2314. A study <strong>of</strong> systems concepts and their application in<br />
the design and operation <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>it and non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organizations<br />
that are engaged in the production <strong>of</strong> goods or services in the<br />
domestic and global environments.<br />
MANG 3467 Human Resource Management<br />
3 cr.<br />
A study <strong>of</strong> the problems <strong>of</strong> personnel relations as applied to the<br />
employment, development, maintenance, and utilization <strong>of</strong> a labor<br />
force.<br />
MANG 3472 Business Communication - Oral<br />
3 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. An extensive study <strong>of</strong> oral business communication<br />
techniques, including use <strong>of</strong> visual aids. Students make<br />
oral presentations individually and in groups relating to a variety<br />
<strong>of</strong> business problems (e.g., analysis <strong>of</strong> quarterly, annual, and<br />
other financial reports; results <strong>of</strong> feasibility studies or <strong>of</strong> surveys;<br />
conducting directive and non-directive interviews; dictating skills<br />
etc.).<br />
MANG 3474 Comp-Based Multimedia Apps<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: MANG 3471. This course builds on the written and<br />
oral communication skills that UNO business students develop in<br />
MANG 3471 Business Communication. Focus is on the development<br />
skills necessary to design and prepare various types <strong>of</strong> presentations<br />
using a multimedia approach. Students learn how to develop<br />
storyboards, choose, and prepare various media for state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art<br />
presentations.<br />
MANG 3475 Communications<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: MANG 3401 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. The course<br />
introduces the student to the communication knowledge and skills<br />
necessary to function as a manager in a contemporary organization.<br />
Topical coverage includes the role <strong>of</strong> verbal and nonverbal<br />
language, perception, listening, and media choice. The role <strong>of</strong><br />
communication is emphasized in a variety <strong>of</strong> managerial activities<br />
such as problem solving, interviewing, managing conflict and<br />
introducing change. Communication is examined at the intrapersonal,<br />
interpersonal, organizational, and system levels.<br />
MANG 3476 Management Science I<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: MANG 3402. An introduction to the concepts, tools,<br />
and applications <strong>of</strong> management science in organizations. Emphasis<br />
will be on cases, application studies, and computer analysis<br />
<strong>of</strong> problems in the following areas: decision theory, managerial<br />
forecasting, inventory analysis, linear programming, transportation<br />
models, assignment models, integer and goal programming,<br />
queuing analysis, simulation, and network models.<br />
MANG 3491 Directed Study Management<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: Approval <strong>of</strong> the directed individual study by the<br />
department chair and the supervising pr<strong>of</strong>essor is required prior<br />
to registration. Offered each semester. The student should refer to<br />
the College <strong>of</strong> Business Administration Policy on Undergraduate<br />
Directed Individual Study available in the Management Department.<br />
This course is arranged individually in order to provide latitude for<br />
specialized study and research under the direction <strong>of</strong> a faculty<br />
member. Progress reports, conferences, and a research paper are<br />
required. May be repeated for up to six hours credit.<br />
MANG 3595 AYA-Special Topics Management<br />
3 cr.<br />
This course in only <strong>of</strong>fered through UNO’s Academic Year Abroad<br />
(AYA) in Innsbruck, Austria and can be repeated once for credit.<br />
MANG 3778 Management Information Systems<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: MANG 3401 and BA 2780. The nature <strong>of</strong> information<br />
systems and how computers assist management in decision making.<br />
Includes examples in creating and implementing management<br />
information systems and an analysis <strong>of</strong> computer hardware and<br />
s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />
MANG 3788 Business Applicatn Development<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: BA 2780 or the consent <strong>of</strong> the department. A course<br />
to develop business applications using an object-oriented programming<br />
environment. Introduces students to develop business applications<br />
quickly. Topics include Rapid Application Development<br />
(RAD), code re-use, and team development <strong>of</strong> information systems<br />
projects.<br />
MANG 4021 Legal Issues in HRM<br />
3 cr.<br />
A study and analysis <strong>of</strong> current legal issues and trends affecting<br />
the management <strong>of</strong> human resources. Topics include the Americans<br />
With Disabilities Act, sex discrimination/sexual harassment,<br />
privacy in the workplace, and issues related to diversity in the<br />
workplace. These and other issues are addressed within the legal<br />
environment <strong>of</strong> Louisiana state law and federal law. Students focus<br />
on analysis <strong>of</strong> court cases and practical application <strong>of</strong> legal principles<br />
to human resource problems faced by managers. Emphasis<br />
is placed on how to manage problems to reduce potential liability<br />
and achieve desired results.<br />

<strong>of</strong> the department. This course provides concepts and techniques<br />
that enable students to anticipate and deal with the problems <strong>of</strong><br />
growth in an entrepreneurial company. The course is intended for<br />
those interested in growing their own companies and which face<br />
the need to be managed more pr<strong>of</strong>essionally while still keeping<br />
intact the entrepreneurial spirit that brought them to their present<br />
position. Special attention is given to managing the very rapidly<br />
growing company, financing, and using strategic alliances as a<br />
growth strategy. Cases, guest lectures by entrepreneurs, videotapes,<br />
readings, and projects are used to present material.<br />
