EDCI 3440 Pract in Corrective Reading<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDCI 3425 and acceptance into Tier III <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />

This course familiarizes teacher candidates with techniques and<br />

materials used to identify those children in the classroom who are<br />

performing below their potential in reading. It provides teacher<br />

candidates with the experience <strong>of</strong> developing appropriate instruction<br />

for these students. Field experience is required during the<br />

course.<br />

EDCI 3500 Obs & Asmt Early Childhood CR<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Tier II. The course is designed to teach<br />

strategies for observing, documenting, assessing, and reporting the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> young children, and further, to utilize this data to<br />

plan curricula and strategies which will foster the development <strong>of</strong><br />

all children in inclusive nursery and kindergarten classrooms.<br />

EDCI 3510 Understanding & Fac Nur & Kin<br />

2 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Tier III and concurrent enrollment<br />

in EDCI 3511, the field experience component. This course teaches<br />

early childhood education majors about the importance <strong>of</strong> play in<br />

the development and learning <strong>of</strong> young children, how to facilitate<br />

play to an optimal level, and how to advocate for young children’s<br />

right to rich opportunities to play at home, in school, and throughout<br />

the community.<br />

EDCI 3511 Field Exp EDCI 3510<br />

1 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in EDCI 3510. This is a required<br />

one-credit-hour Field Experience that supports candidates in applying<br />

the content <strong>of</strong> EDCI 3510 within the classroom. Candidates must<br />

spend two hours weekly in preschool and school settings to implement<br />

required field activities. Candidates field work will generate<br />

artifacts to document performance <strong>of</strong> required competencies.<br />

EDCI 3520 Mang Nur/Kindergrtn Classroom<br />

2 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Tier III, EDCI 3500, and concurrent<br />

enrollment in EDCI 3521 (the one-hour field experience). This course<br />

surveys models and goals <strong>of</strong> Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs<br />

and teaches early childhood majors basic information necessary<br />

to create and maintain psychologically and physically safe<br />

environments which foster the development and learning among<br />

groups <strong>of</strong> nursery and kindergarten children.<br />

EDCI 3521 Field Exp EDCI 3520<br />

1 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in EDCI 3520. This is a required<br />

one-credit-hour Field Experience that supports candidates in applying<br />

the content <strong>of</strong> EDCI 3520 within the classroom. Candidates must<br />

spend two hours weekly in preschool and school settings to implement<br />

required field activities. Candidate field work will generate<br />

artifacts to document performance <strong>of</strong> required competencies.<br />

EDCI 3530 Curr Dev Nursery & Kindergart<br />

2 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Tier III, EDCI 3500, EDCI 3510, and<br />

concurrent enrollment in EDCI 3531 (Field Experience). This course<br />

teaches early childhood education majors strategies related to creating<br />

environments that foster optimal development and learning<br />

among young children and strategies related to creating an integrated<br />

and seamless curriculum that honors each child’s development<br />

and abilities.<br />

EDCI 3531 Field Exp EDCI 3530<br />

1 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in EDCI 3530. This is a required<br />

one-credit-hour Field Experience that supports candidates in applying<br />

the content <strong>of</strong> EDCI 3530 within the classroom. Candidates must<br />

spend two hours weekly in preschool and school settings to implement<br />

required field activities. Candidate field work will generate<br />

artifacts to document performance <strong>of</strong> required competencies.<br />

EDCI 3540 Develop Logical Math Knowledge<br />

2 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Acceptance into Tier III and enrollment in EDCI 3541,<br />

the accompanying Field Experience (1 hour credit). This course<br />

teaches early childhood and elementary education majors theories<br />

and principles related to the development <strong>of</strong> early math literacy<br />

skills in young children, methods and materials for promoting<br />

early math literacy, and techniques for integrating early math<br />

literacy concepts into themes, projects, play, and other learning<br />

experiences.<br />

EDCI 3541 Field Exp EDCI 3540<br />

1 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in EDCI 3540. This is a required<br />

one-credit-hour Field Experience that supports candidates in applying<br />

the content <strong>of</strong> EDCI 3540 within the classroom. Candidates must<br />

spend two hours weekly in preschool and school settings to implement<br />

required field activities. Candidate field work will generate<br />

artifacts to document performance <strong>of</strong> required competencies.<br />

EDCI 3910 Student Tchng Elemen School 1<br />

2 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: requirements listed under “Requirements for Student<br />

Teaching”. This course is designed to provide the student with an<br />

opportunity to acquire and apply competencies essential for effective<br />

teaching and to create an awareness <strong>of</strong> the total school program.<br />

The student will be assigned to a school on a day-to-day basis<br />

for one semester. The student teacher will participate in classroom<br />

teaching and observation, planning and evaluation conferences,<br />

school and community activities, and other school-related experiences.<br />

A seminar will be held in conjunction with this experience.<br />

The seminar will address the topics <strong>of</strong> classroom management and<br />

interpersonal skills.<br />

EDCI 3915 Student Tch Elm/Spec Educ Cls 1<br />

2 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: requirements listed under “Requirements for Student<br />

Teaching” and concurrent enrollment in EDSP 3700. This course is<br />

designed to provide the student with an opportunity to acquire and<br />

apply competencies essential for effective teaching and to create<br />

an awareness <strong>of</strong> the total school program including mainstreaming<br />

practices and multicultural differences in students. The student<br />

will be assigned on an all-day basis to 1) a regular elementary<br />

classroom for half <strong>of</strong> the semester and 2) a special education<br />

classroom the other half <strong>of</strong> the semester. The student teacher will<br />

participate in classroom teaching and observation, planning, and<br />

evaluation conferences, school and community activities, and other<br />

school-related experiences. A seminar will be held in conjunction<br />

with this experience. The seminar will address the topics <strong>of</strong> classroom<br />

management and interpersonal skills.<br />

EDCI 3920 Student Teaching Secondary Sch 1<br />

2 cr.<br />

Teaching.” This course is designed to provide the student with an<br />

opportunity to acquire and apply competencies essential for effective<br />

teaching and to create an awareness <strong>of</strong> the total school program.<br />

The student will be assigned to a school on a full-day basis<br />

school and community activities, and other school-related experiences.<br />
