and introduces Data Analysis and Probability, Trigonometry, and<br />

studies, and science. Evaluating and adapting hardware and s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />

for classroom use. Introductory study <strong>of</strong> the BASIC and Logo<br />

4751 and begins to focus on teaching science in the context <strong>of</strong> the<br />

urban secondary school. Curriculum, instruction, and classroom<br />

EDCI 4753G Secondary Sci Pract Seminar II<br />

Prerequisite: EDCI 4752; concurrent with EDUC 4702. This course,<br />

which is part <strong>of</strong> the Teach Greater <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> (TGNO) Practitioner<br />

Teacher Program, builds upon the main themes addressed<br />

in the summer and fall Secondary Science Teaching course with<br />

a focus on the context <strong>of</strong> the urban secondary school. Conceptual<br />

ideas from the summer course will be revisited in light <strong>of</strong> the participants’<br />

actual teaching situations. Portfolio development, praxis<br />

preparation, the components <strong>of</strong> effective teaching, and LATEP will<br />

be emphasized. Offered for graduate credit only.<br />

EDCI 4800 Principles & Practice <strong>of</strong> Instr<br />

A survey <strong>of</strong> instructional principles with emphasis on the interaction<br />

<strong>of</strong> theory and practice, including lesson design, classroom<br />

management, instructional strategies, and evaluative processes.<br />

order to develop and refine teachers’ questioning behaviors related<br />

to student cognitive development.<br />

Prerequisites: EDCI 3100 or EDCI 3200 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department.<br />

An intensive study <strong>of</strong> questioning theory, research, and practice in<br />

order to develop and refine teachers’ questioning behaviors related<br />

to student cognitive development.<br />

EDCI 4910 Intern Alt PB Crt Low Ele Teac<br />

6 cr.<br />

Open only to graduate students admitted to Alternative Post-Baccalaureate<br />

Certification for Lower Elementary Education. Prerequisites:<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong> 12 semester hours <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

education courses in the Teacher Preparation Program at UNO and<br />

all appropriate methods courses prior to enrollment in this internship<br />

or consent <strong>of</strong> department. The participant must hold a teaching<br />

position in the area <strong>of</strong> desired certification. The intern will<br />

participate in lower elementary classroom teaching (grades one<br />

through four), observation, planning, and evaluation conferences,<br />

school and community activities, and other related experiences.<br />

Enrollment in the internship for two consecutive semesters (12<br />

credits) is required. Not for graduate credit.<br />

EDCI 4990 Practicum in Teaching<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: open only to certified teachers who are changing level<br />

<strong>of</strong> certification and who have a minimum <strong>of</strong> three years <strong>of</strong> teaching<br />

experience. The students in this course must meet student teaching<br />

requirements, at the selected level, as stipulated in the UNO General<br />

Catalog under “Requirements for Student Teaching.” Classroom<br />

teaching, observation, planning, and evaluation conferences, school<br />

and community activities, and other school-related experiences to<br />

create an awareness <strong>of</strong> the total school program at the selected<br />

level. The time spent in the practicum will be computed on the<br />

basis <strong>of</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong> eight hours per week per semester.<br />
