EDSP 6860 Low Vision & Ed Implications<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDSP 4800 and 4810 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department.<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> the educational strategies utilized in teaching students<br />

with low vision. Examination <strong>of</strong> the procedures and equipment<br />

used for educating students who are partially sighted.<br />

EDSP 6870 Educ Indiv Deaf-Blind Disab<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDSP 4440 and 4800 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department.<br />

Characteristics assessment and educational strategies for individuals<br />

with deaf/blind and multiple disabilities. Habilitation and<br />

vocational considerations will be addressed.<br />

EDSP 6900 Practicum Severe/Pr<strong>of</strong>ound Hand<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Field work, observations, seminars,<br />

lectures, and/or empirical research projects in programs that<br />

provide services for individuals with severe pr<strong>of</strong>ound handicapping<br />

conditions.<br />

EDSP 6945 Practicum Hearing Impaired Std<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Field work, observations,<br />

seminars, lectures, and/or empirical research projects with hearing<br />

impaired children or adults in an academic or rehabilitation<br />

setting.<br />

EDSP 6950 Practicum Gifted/Talented<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDSP 6540 and consent <strong>of</strong> department. Field work,<br />

observations, seminars, lectures, and/or empirical research project<br />

in gifted and talented.<br />

EDSP 6955 Practicum Early Intervention<br />

3-6 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Field<br />

work, observations, seminars, lectures, and/or empirical research<br />

project in early intervention programs for the children with disabilities.<br />

Section number will correspond with the credit hours to<br />

be earned. Course may be repeated for a maximum <strong>of</strong> six credit<br />

hours.<br />

EDSP 6960 Practicum Mild/Mod Special Ed<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDSP 6620 and consent <strong>of</strong> department. Field work,<br />

observations, seminars, lectures and/or empirical research projects<br />

in programs that provide services for individuals with mild moderate<br />

conditions.<br />

EDSP 6961 Practicum in Mainstreaming M/M<br />

3 cr.<br />

The Practicum in Mainstreaming Students with Mild Moderate<br />

Handicapping Conditions will provide students with field work,<br />

observation, seminars, lectures, and applied research projects in<br />

education students. Students should have completed all courses<br />

required for certification in mild moderate special education. Consent<br />

<strong>of</strong> the department is required.<br />

EDSP 6962 Student Teaching Special Educ<br />

9 cr.<br />

Student Teaching in Special Education is open to those graduate<br />

students who are working toward certification in special education<br />

and who do not currently hold a teaching position. Field work,<br />

observations, seminars, lectures, and applied research projects in<br />

programs that provide services for individuals with handicapping<br />

conditions. Consent <strong>of</strong> the department is required. Students should<br />

have completed all courses required for certification in special education<br />

area <strong>of</strong> concentration.<br />

EDSP 6963 Internship Special Education<br />

6 cr.<br />

The internship is open only to those students who presently hold<br />

a teaching position in a special education classroom and are under<br />

teaching contract for an academic school year. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional teaching<br />

responsibilities, observations, seminars, lectures, and applied<br />

research projects are required. Students should have completed all<br />

courses required for certification in special education area <strong>of</strong> concentration.<br />

The approval <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Special Education<br />

and Habilitative Services is required. (6 credits per semester for a<br />

total <strong>of</strong> 12 for the academic year)<br />

EDSP 6964 Comp & Asst Tech Special Educ<br />

3 cr.<br />

Critical issues related to using computers and assistive technology<br />

to accommodate educational, social, and vocational needs <strong>of</strong> people<br />

with exceptionalities.<br />

EDSP 6970 Pract Psycho Educ Diagnosis<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Conducted under the direct<br />

supervision <strong>of</strong> certified educational consultants or certified assessment<br />

teachers in on-site settings. Required activities include observation,<br />

preparation, testing, scoring and interpretation, staffing,<br />

report writing, and participation in Individual Educational Plan<br />

conferences.<br />

EDSP 6980 Practicum Visual Impairment<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDSP 4810, 4820, 4830, 6840, and 6850 or consent <strong>of</strong><br />

department. The course consists <strong>of</strong> supervised field work, observations,<br />

seminars, lectures, and/or empirical research in the area <strong>of</strong><br />

visual impairment.<br />

EDSP 6981 Sem Spec Educ & Habil Svc<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: admission by permission <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Special<br />

Education and Habilitative Services. Discussion <strong>of</strong> critical issues,<br />

critique <strong>of</strong> literature, development <strong>of</strong> theories, models with respect<br />

to handicapping conditions.<br />

EDSP 6982 Ind Study Spec Ed & Habil Svc<br />

1-3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> the department and major pr<strong>of</strong>essor. Investigations<br />

<strong>of</strong> pertinent problems under the direction <strong>of</strong> a graduate<br />

faculty member. This course may be repeated but total credit may<br />

not exceed six semester hours. Section number will correspond<br />

with credit to be earned.<br />

EDSP 6985 Internship Spec Ed & Habil Svc<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Assignment to a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

educational clinical and service settings that are concerned with<br />

the diagnosis remediation and/or treatment <strong>of</strong> individuals with<br />

exceptional needs.<br />

EDSP 6990 Sel Topics Spec Ed & Habil Svc<br />

1-3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Topic will vary from<br />

semester to semester. Section number will correspond with the<br />

credit hours to be earned. Course may be repeated for a maximum<br />

<strong>of</strong> six semester hours within particular degree program.<br />

EDSP 7000 Thesis Research<br />

1-9 cr.<br />

To be repeated for credit until thesis is accepted. Section number<br />

will correspond with credit to be earned.<br />

EDSP 7010 Doctoral Sem Leadrship Roles<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: doctoral student standing in the Department <strong>of</strong> Special<br />

Education and Habilitative Services or consent <strong>of</strong> department. An<br />

initial study <strong>of</strong> the roles and issues related to personnel preparation<br />

research and systems intervention in the field <strong>of</strong> special education<br />

and habilitative services.<br />

EDSP 7015 Doctoral Sem Syst Intervention<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDSP 7010 and doctoral student standing in the Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Special Education and Habilitative Services or consent <strong>of</strong><br />

department. An examination <strong>of</strong> the leadership roles and requisite<br />

skills for a systems change agent within the field <strong>of</strong> special education<br />

and habilitative services.<br />

EDSP 7020 Doctoral Sem Persnnel Prep<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: doctoral student standing in the Department <strong>of</strong> Special<br />

Education and Habilitative Services or consent <strong>of</strong> department. An<br />

examination <strong>of</strong> the role <strong>of</strong> the university faculty member involved<br />

in the preparation <strong>of</strong> special education personnel.<br />
