EDGC 6852 Adv Multicultural Counseling<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: EDGC 6452, doctoral standing or consent <strong>of</strong> department.<br />
An advanced exploration <strong>of</strong> issues involved in culturally<br />
competent counseling, counseling supervision, and counselor education.<br />
Current social and cultural issues, social change theory,<br />
oppression models, and advocacy action planning for counselors,<br />
supervisors, and counseling faculty members are addressed. All<br />
types <strong>of</strong> human diversity and equity issues in counseling, counseling<br />
supervision, and counselor education are reviewed. Students<br />
examine their own cultural heritage and racial identity development<br />
in relation to the counseling relationship, counseling supervision,<br />
and counselor education.<br />
EDGC 6860 Introduction to Play Therapy<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: EDGC 6400 (Theories <strong>of</strong> Consulting), 6430 (Counseling<br />
Techniques), admission to degree program, or consent <strong>of</strong> the<br />
department. Introduction to major theories and counseling techniques<br />
specifically designed for children ages 2-15. This will include<br />
play and creative techniques applicable with various populations in<br />
numerous settings and adaptable to individual, family, and group<br />
modalities.<br />
EDGC 6870 Advanced Play Therapy<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: EDGC 6400, 6430, 6860, and admission to degree<br />
program or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Advanced instruction in play<br />
therapy. Strategies for successful practice. Development <strong>of</strong> specific<br />
play therapy skills.<br />
EDGC 6880 Adv Counseling Intervention<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: EDGC 6430, 6440, 6990, master’s level internship, doctoral<br />
standing or consent <strong>of</strong> department. The study <strong>of</strong> advanced<br />
interventions utilized by experienced pr<strong>of</strong>essional counselors in<br />
providing counseling services to clients. Models and methods <strong>of</strong><br />
assessment and use <strong>of</strong> data in evaluating client problems. Application<br />
<strong>of</strong> theory to practice.<br />
EDGC 6895 Internship in Counseling<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: approved application and admission to degree program<br />
or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Observation and participation in<br />
counseling in schools, central <strong>of</strong>fices, special projects, hospitals,<br />
community agencies, and other controlled clinical settings. Three<br />
hundred hours <strong>of</strong> supervised fieldwork is required. Course must be<br />
repeated.<br />
EDGC 6990 Practicum in Counseling<br />
1-3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: EDGC 6400, 6430, 6440 and admission to a degree<br />
program or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Observation and counseling<br />
in school, higher education, community, and controlled laboratory<br />
settings. Lectures, seminars, field work, and related research projects<br />
where applicable. One hundred hours <strong>of</strong> supervised fieldwork<br />
is required. Course may be repeated.<br />
EDGC 6993 Spec Topics in Couns Education<br />
1-3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Topic will vary from semester<br />
to semester. Section number will correspond with the credit to be<br />
earned. Course may be repeated for a maximum <strong>of</strong> six semester<br />
hours within a particular degree program.<br />
EDGC 6995 Ind Study Counselor Education<br />
1-3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: consent <strong>of</strong> department and major pr<strong>of</strong>essor. Investigation<br />
<strong>of</strong> pertinent problems under the direction <strong>of</strong> a graduate faculty<br />
member. This course may be repeated but total credit may not<br />
exceed six semester hours. Section number will correspond with<br />
credit to be earned.<br />
EDGC 6996 Adv Supervision in Counseling<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: EDGC 6810 and doctoral standing or consent <strong>of</strong><br />
department. Advanced clinical techniques <strong>of</strong> supervising counselors.<br />
Theory, research, and experience in monitoring and evaluating<br />
counselor performance during stages <strong>of</strong> the counseling process are<br />
emphasized. Ethical and legal issues in counseling supervision and<br />
counselor education. Field experience required.<br />
EDGC 6997 Res Sem in Counselor Education<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Doctoral students will complete<br />
their dissertation proposals under faculty supervision. Course<br />
must be completed for credit until dissertation proposal has been<br />
accepted by the student’s committee. A maximum <strong>of</strong> three semester<br />
hours <strong>of</strong> credit may be counted in a degree program.<br />
EDGC 6998 Doc Sem Consult Couns Educ<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: doctoral standing or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Discussion<br />
and analysis <strong>of</strong> the approaches and procedures <strong>of</strong> consultation<br />
services in counselor education with emphasis on applying skills to<br />
consultation problems in various counseling settings.<br />
EDGC 7000 Thesis Research<br />
1-9 cr.<br />
To be repeated for credit until thesis is accepted. Section number<br />
will correspond with credit to be earned.<br />
EDGC 7040 Examination or Thesis Only<br />
0 cr.<br />
No credit. Open to students in a thesis program who have only<br />
(other than application for degree) the final typing and acceptance<br />
by the Graduate School <strong>of</strong> their thesis or dissertation or to students<br />
in a non-thesis program who have only (other than application<br />
for degree) to pass the final examination to complete graduation<br />
requirements.<br />
