Prerequisite: admission to graduate program in psychology or<br />

consent <strong>of</strong> department. Review <strong>of</strong> anatomical, physiological, and<br />

biochemical bases <strong>of</strong> behavior with special consideration <strong>of</strong> the<br />

consequences <strong>of</strong> disease or injury-caused disturbances.<br />

PSYC 6802 Fund Appl Biopsychology II<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: PSYC 6801 and an advanced undergraduate or graduate<br />

neuroanatomy lab. Lectures and readings on the application <strong>of</strong><br />

the fundamental principles <strong>of</strong> neurology and biology to the traditional<br />

subdisciplines <strong>of</strong> biopsychology, including sensation and<br />

perception, control <strong>of</strong> movement, emotion, motivation, learning<br />

and memory, and disorders <strong>of</strong> thought and mood.<br />

PSYC 6810 Psychopharmacology<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: PSYC 6801. Interrelations <strong>of</strong> human biochemistry and<br />

behavior with particular attention to neural transmitters, the<br />

endocrine system, and clinical applications.<br />

PSYC 6820 Psychophysiology<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: PSYC 6801. Review <strong>of</strong> physiological concomitants <strong>of</strong><br />

normal and disturbed behavioral processes. Topics will include<br />

evoked potentials galvanic skin response and brainstem potentials.<br />

Two hours <strong>of</strong> lecture and two hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

PSYC 6830 Neuropsychology<br />

Prerequisite: PSYC 6801. Review and evaluation <strong>of</strong> research in and<br />

the diagnosis and treatment <strong>of</strong> brain dysfunction.<br />

PSYC 6840 Behavioral Medicine<br />

Prerequisite: PSYC 6801. Summary <strong>of</strong> biological and behavioral<br />

interactions in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment <strong>of</strong> psychosomatic<br />

disorders such as headaches, insomnia, sexual dysfunction,<br />

and cardiovascular diseases.<br />

Prerequisites: PSYC 6050, 6101, 6311, 6312, 6350, 6801, and either 6102<br />

or 6802. Supervised experience in various fields <strong>of</strong> applied biopsychology.<br />

Amount <strong>of</strong> credit to be stated at time <strong>of</strong> registration. May<br />

be repeated for credit.<br />

PSYC 6895 Adv Sem Appl Biopsychology<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: PSYC 6801 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. The topics vary<br />

from semester to semester and may include such current topics<br />

as brain function theory, biopsychological methods, or new or<br />

developing areas <strong>of</strong> application. This seminar may be repeated for<br />

credit.<br />

PSYC 7000 Thesis Research<br />

1-9 cr.<br />

To be repeated for credit until thesis is accepted. Section number<br />

will correspond with the credit to be earned.<br />

PSYC 7010 Teaching <strong>of</strong> Psychology<br />

3 cr.<br />

Requisites: Masters degree and consent <strong>of</strong> department. Supervised<br />

experience in teaching an undergraduate lecture class in psychology.<br />

Provides didactic and practical experience in designing<br />

a coherent course structure, developing a syllabus, using innovative<br />

teaching methods, designing effective exams, evaluating teaching<br />

effectiveness, and being sensitive to ethical issues involved in<br />

teaching and interacting with students.<br />

PSYC 7025 Proc & Problems Psyc Research<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: for doctoral candidates only. This course may be<br />

repeated once for credit. Research experience with topics not<br />

planned for dissertation. The student is responsible for the selection<br />

<strong>of</strong> the area <strong>of</strong> research.<br />

Open to students in a thesis program who have only (other than<br />

application for degree) the final typing and acceptance by the<br />

PSYC 7050 Dissertation Research<br />

Preparation <strong>of</strong> dissertation by Ph.D. candidate under direction <strong>of</strong><br />

PSYC 7191 Internship Appl Dev Psychology<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisites: Completion <strong>of</strong> course work<br />

and general examinaition. Only open to Applied Developmental<br />

Psychology graduate students nominated by the Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Psychology and accepted by a departmentallly-approved internship<br />

site. An internship normally involves the equivalent <strong>of</strong> 12 months<br />

<strong>of</strong> supervised full-time experience. To qualify as an internship, a<br />

minimum <strong>of</strong> 1500 hours at the site must be completed within 24<br />

months. The internship is an intensive, advanced supervised experience<br />

required to be a practicing psychologist. May be repeated for<br />

credit. Pass/fail grading.<br />

at the site must be completed within 24 months. The internship<br />

is an intensive, advanced supervised experienced required to be a<br />

practicing psychologist. May be repeated once for credit. Pass/fail<br />
