MUS 6950 Half Recital<br />

1 cr.<br />

Presentation <strong>of</strong> a public recital <strong>of</strong> at least 30 minutes <strong>of</strong> actual<br />

playing duration. Content <strong>of</strong> the program must be similar to that<br />

normally included in pr<strong>of</strong>essional recitals. A faculty committee<br />

will approve the program and grade the performance on a Pass-<br />

Fail basis.<br />

MUS 6990 Graduate Recital<br />

3 cr.<br />

Presentation <strong>of</strong> a public recital <strong>of</strong> at least 60 minutes <strong>of</strong> actual<br />

playing duration. Content <strong>of</strong> the program must be similar to that<br />

normally included in pr<strong>of</strong>essional recitals and must include works<br />

in several styles. A faculty committee will approve the program<br />

and grade the performance on a Pass-Fail basis.<br />

Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering<br />

NAME 1151 Intro to Naval Arch Marine Eng<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: MATH 2107. An overview <strong>of</strong> the Maritime Industry,<br />

marine transportation systems, maritime organizations; types and<br />

purposes <strong>of</strong> commercial and naval ships, advanced marine vehicles<br />

and floating <strong>of</strong>fshore structures, basics <strong>of</strong> ship building, operation,<br />

safety, maintenance and environmental protection; various disciplines<br />

<strong>of</strong> naval architecture; introduction to major ship systems.<br />

Includes generation and interpretation <strong>of</strong> ship drawings, technical<br />

drawings <strong>of</strong> components and machinery. Training in hand sketching<br />

and 2-D computer-aided design s<strong>of</strong>tware. Two hours <strong>of</strong> lecture<br />

and three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

NAME 2151 Intro to Marine Design<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: MATH 2111 or 2108, NAME 1151. Basic concepts <strong>of</strong><br />

marine hydrostatics, resistance and propulsion, power systems, and<br />

seaway dynamics.<br />

NAME 2160 Form Calculations & Stability<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: ENCE 2350 and NAME 2151. Lines plan; static stability,<br />

hydrostatic curves, determination <strong>of</strong> areas, volumes, displacement;<br />

buoyancy <strong>of</strong> damaged vessels and stability, launching <strong>of</strong> ships, towing<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>f-shore platform structures and their emplacement.<br />
