EDHP 6210 Principles <strong>of</strong> Motor Learning<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. A study <strong>of</strong> the relationship<br />
between learning theory and research in motor behavior with<br />
implications for teaching and performing motor skills.<br />
EDHP 6211 Growth Maturation & Phys Actv<br />
3 cr.<br />
This course is designed to expand graduate students’ knowledge <strong>of</strong><br />
the theoretical and applied aspects <strong>of</strong> growth and maturation in<br />
relation to physical activity, sport, and exercise. The course material<br />
will be presented from a bio-socio-cultural perspective, integrating<br />
elements from biology, motor behavior, psychology, sociology. Particular<br />
attention will be given to childhood and adolescent growth<br />
and physical activity. Maturational, behavioral, and developmental<br />
assessment, and their application to human performance careers<br />
will be emphasized.<br />
EDHP 6217 Psychology <strong>of</strong> Sport<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. This course will explore sport<br />
psychology, particularly those parameters that are social in nature<br />
and which influence behavior and performance. Considerations<br />
include personality and the athlete, psychological motivation and<br />
athletic performance, nature and dynamics <strong>of</strong> leadership, group<br />
dynamics, group cohesion, and social facilitation.<br />
EDHP 6220 Exercise Physiology<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. A study <strong>of</strong> the functional<br />
responses <strong>of</strong> the body in an exercise state and the specific adaptability<br />
<strong>of</strong> the body to training stimuli. Special consideration will<br />
be given to the practical applicability <strong>of</strong> scientific facts to teaching<br />
human performance and athletics.<br />
EDHP 6224 Exercise Physiology Lab Methds<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: EDHP 6220 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Includes an<br />
examination <strong>of</strong> laboratory methods with respect to exercise stress<br />
testing, body composition, flexibility, and muscular strength and<br />
endurance. Directed toward students seeking ACSM certification.<br />
EDHP 6230 Biomechanics <strong>of</strong> Sport<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. A study <strong>of</strong> the mechanical<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> performance in athletics and dance which affect the<br />
efficiency and effectiveness <strong>of</strong> human movement. Special consideration<br />
will be given to cinematographic and task analysis techniques<br />
to improve evaluation <strong>of</strong> movement.<br />
EDHP 6402 Exercise Physiology <strong>of</strong> Aging<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. A study <strong>of</strong> acute and chronic<br />
adaptations to exercises stress in the aged. Topics will include<br />
cardiorespiratory, neuromuscular and energy system adaptations,<br />
physical activity patterns, and body composition changes in an<br />
older population.<br />
EDHP 6404 Fitness and Aging<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: EDHP 3201 or 6220 or 6402 or consent <strong>of</strong> department.<br />
Designed for individuals interested in working with the elderly in<br />
helping to reduce or retard the aging process and rehabilitate those<br />
with chronic conditions through an exercise wellness program.<br />
EDHP 6406 Adapt PA for Adults with Dis<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. This course examines the etiology,<br />
symptomatology, and characteristics <strong>of</strong> disabling conditions<br />
and their implications for therapeutic physical activity intervention<br />
in clinical and non-clinical settings. Emphasis is placed upon<br />
increasing the quality <strong>of</strong> life for frail and disabled adults.<br />
EDHP 6511 Curr Development in Phys Educ<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. A study <strong>of</strong> curriculum development,<br />
analysis, and trends in physical education.<br />
EDHP 6522 Public Relations in Sport<br />
3 cr.<br />
A review <strong>of</strong> the nature and function <strong>of</strong> communication and public<br />
relations in sport management. Students will learn the concepts<br />
and practices <strong>of</strong> sports communications through class lectures,<br />
writing assignments, case studies and projects. Topics include the<br />
field <strong>of</strong> public relations, its history and evolution, the skills and<br />
methods involved in the duties <strong>of</strong> the SID, public relations specialist,<br />
or media relations specialist, and current attitudes and concerns<br />
in media relations between athletes, coaches, administrators and<br />
owners.<br />
EDHP 6523 Moral Dilemmas in Sport<br />
3 cr.<br />
This course examines ethical principles and theories and how they<br />
relate to the various aspects <strong>of</strong> sport. An investigation <strong>of</strong> how these<br />
theories can be applied to situations, problem solving and decisionmaking<br />
in sport management is also addressed.<br />
EDHP 6524 Fund Raising in Sport<br />
3 cr.<br />
A review <strong>of</strong> fiscal management principles for use in the administration<br />
<strong>of</strong> sport, recreation and athletic programs. Focus will be<br />
placed on economic impact, fiscal budgeting, financial analysis<br />
and sources <strong>of</strong> revenues and expenses for sport organizations. In<br />
addition, emphasis will be placed on economic theory and its use<br />
in sport management. Topics include media rights, PSL’s naming<br />
rights, ticket sales, concessions and fund raising.<br />
EDHP 6525 Seminar Sport Management<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. The purpose <strong>of</strong> the course is to<br />
provide advanced preparation for master’s-level students in sport<br />
management. Both theoretical and applied sport management topics<br />
will comprise the course.<br />
EDHP 6712 Adapt PE & Hlth Mgmt Child<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. This course is designed for<br />
educators and health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Focus is on sensory and motor<br />
skills <strong>of</strong> children with delayed or abnormal development. Concepts<br />
for early intervention include assessment, reflex analysis, handling<br />
and positioning, and play. Also medical apparatus, adaptive equipment,<br />
nutrition, feeding techniques, and other IFSP health concerns<br />
will be included. Two hours lecture and two hours laboratory.<br />
EDHP 6970 Doctoral Seminar HP & HP<br />
3 cr.<br />
(EDHP 6970 and EDCI 6970 are cross listed) Offered every other<br />
year. Prerequisite: Passage <strong>of</strong> the Doctoral Qualifying Examination;<br />
and one <strong>of</strong> EDCI 6600, EDCI 6610, or EDCI 6620; or by consent <strong>of</strong> the<br />
department. Critical analysis and discussion <strong>of</strong> issues and research<br />
topics related to Human Performance and Health Promotion. Topics<br />
will vary with each <strong>of</strong>fering.<br />
EDHP 6990 Ind Study Human Performance<br />
1-3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: EDHP 6170, EDFR 6700, and advanced graduate standing<br />
with consent <strong>of</strong> department and major pr<strong>of</strong>essor. Investigation<br />
<strong>of</strong> pertinent problems under the direction <strong>of</strong> a graduate faculty<br />
member. This course may be repeated but total credit may not<br />
exceed six semester hours. Section number will correspond with<br />
credit to be earned.<br />
EDHP 6998 Internship Human Performance<br />
1-6 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Provides a supervised experience<br />
in one <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>essional domains <strong>of</strong> the human performance<br />
discipline including clinical movement, exercise physiology,<br />
gerontology, sport and exercise psychology, sport management, and<br />
others.<br />
