Students are advised to take FIN 330 before taking ECON 4262.<br />

To satisfy the core curriculum requirement in Political Science, students<br />
must choose two <strong>of</strong> the following courses: POLI 4700, 4705,<br />
4710, 4720, 4770, 4780, 4800, 4850.<br />

For BAIS students only, the prerequisites for SOC 4094 are met by<br />
SOC 1051 and MATH 2314.<br />

To satisfy the core curriculum requirements in History, students<br />
must take 6 hours in non-Western history or 6 hours in diplomatic<br />
history. Choices for the nonwestern history option are: HIST 2000,<br />
2201, 2202, 2302, 2402, 2701, 2702, 4201, 4301, 4304, 4401, 4406, or any<br />
4000-level HIST course with a non-U.S./non-European focus. (Note:<br />
A student whose primary BAIS concentration is area studies should<br />
choose 6 hours <strong>of</strong> history unrelated to his or her geographic focus.)<br />
Choices for the diplomatic history option are: HIST 4381, 4570, 4575,<br />
4580 and 4581.<br />

Foreign language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency for the BAIS must be demonstrated<br />
by passing 6 hours <strong>of</strong> 3000+ level non-literature courses in a language<br />
<strong>of</strong> choice, or competency to be determined by the Director<br />
<strong>of</strong> International Studies in consultation with appropriate faculty<br />
in the Department <strong>of</strong> Foreign Languages. If a 3000-level conversation<br />
course is included in those 6 hours, it will also satisfy the UNO<br />
oral competency requirement. However, if a conversation course is<br />
not included, students should include in Electives a course that fulfills<br />
the oral competency requirement for majors in any relevant<br />
discipline.<br />

The culture course requirement may be met by any 2000-, 3000-,<br />
or 4000-level course in non-U.S. anthropology, art history, history,<br />
literature or culture, music, or philosophy.<br />

The UNO computer literacy requirement is met by BA 2780. The<br />
prerequisite for BA 2780 is MATH 1115 or 1125 and successful completion<br />
<strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Business Administration computer pr<strong>of</strong>iciency<br />
test.<br />

CURRICULA IN MUSIC<br />
Students working toward the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Music may elect<br />
one <strong>of</strong> two emphases <strong>of</strong>fered through the College <strong>of</strong> Liberal Arts: Jazz<br />
Studies, or Music Studies. Students may also choose Music Education:<br />
Instrumental or Music Education: Vocal <strong>of</strong>fered through the College<br />
<strong>of</strong> Education. Students working toward the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Music<br />
Education should refer to the curriculum listings in the College <strong>of</strong><br />
Education section <strong>of</strong> the catalog. Because <strong>of</strong> the specific skill development<br />
needed for each emphasis, students should follow the appropriate<br />
listing <strong>of</strong> courses.<br />
Students are admitted to the Music Major Program upon recommendation<br />
<strong>of</strong> the faculty in the chosen emphasis area. Please note the<br />
following requirements according to emphasis:<br />
1. For Jazz Studies: an audition demonstrating potential for successful<br />
completion <strong>of</strong> required public recitals.<br />
2. For Music Studies: an interview with the area coordinator.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> is an accredited institutional member <strong>of</strong> the National<br />
Association <strong>of</strong> Schools <strong>of</strong> Music.<br />
Students majoring in music must meet the following requirements:<br />
1. Piano through Music 1408 or equivalent as determined by placement<br />
examination for Instrumental Music Education, Vocal Music<br />
Education and Music Studies majors, except where piano is the<br />
major instrumental. Students must also pass a juried pr<strong>of</strong>iciency<br />
exam in order to graduate. MUS 1407 and MUS 1408 may not be<br />
used for music elective credit.<br />
2. Full-time students must enroll in one ensemble appropriate to<br />
their emphasis area each semester (except during the student<br />
teaching semester for Music Education majors) even though the<br />
six-hour requirement may have been fulfilled. Part-time students<br />
are strongly encouraged to participate in an ensemble every<br />
semester. Any student, whether full-time or part-time, who is<br />
enrolled in an applied music course, must enroll in an ensemble.<br />
Students with an emphasis in piano or music studies should consult<br />
with their advisor to choose an ensemble.<br />
3. All full-time Music and Music Education majors are required to<br />
register for Student Recital Hour (MUS 1900) each semester and<br />
must meet attendance requirements. Majors with an emphasis<br />
in Jazz Studies, and Vocal or Instrumental Music Education are<br />
required to perform in at least one Recital Hour each semester<br />
(with the approval <strong>of</strong> the Applied Music Lesson instructor.)<br />
