FA 3203 Senior Project in Art History<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: At least 24 hours in art history courses at the 3000<br />

level or above, including one with at least three <strong>of</strong> the full-time<br />

art history faculty, and consent <strong>of</strong> department. Independent study<br />

resulting in the writing <strong>of</strong> an advanced research paper. Topic to be<br />

determined in consultation with the supervising faculty member.<br />

The finished paper will be evaluated by a committee <strong>of</strong> the art<br />

history faculty.<br />

FA 3271 Art Historical Methods<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: 12 hours in art history including FA 2201 and 2202<br />

and consent <strong>of</strong> department. Offered once every third semester<br />

excluding summers. A seminar designed to familiarize students<br />

with a variety <strong>of</strong> art historical methods through readings, discussions,<br />

written assignments, and visits to museums and archives.<br />

Required <strong>of</strong> all art history majors. Students in disciplines other<br />

than art history who can meet the prerequisites and are interested<br />

in post-baccalaureate studies or career possibilities in art history<br />

are encouraged to take this course.<br />

FA 3291 Internship in Fine Arts<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Each semester the department<br />

makes available a limited number <strong>of</strong> internships for qualified<br />

undergraduates with the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> and other public and<br />

nonpr<strong>of</strong>it agencies. Interns will work a minimum <strong>of</strong> eight hours a<br />

week at times mutually agreeable to the individual and the agency;<br />

some assignments may require more than eight hours a week. In<br />

addition, the student must meet regularly with an adviser from<br />

the fine arts faculty and the student’s work will receive written<br />

evaluation from both the agency supervisor and the departmental<br />

adviser. FA 3291 and 3292 may not be used as part <strong>of</strong> the departmental<br />

requirement for a nine hour sequence at the 3000 level<br />

stipulated in the Studio Art Option.<br />

FA 3293 Ind Study in Art History<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: 12 hours in art history including FA 2201 and 2202<br />

and consent <strong>of</strong> department. A tutorial arranged individually to<br />

provide latitude for specialized study and research on topics not<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered in the current curriculum. A member <strong>of</strong> the art history<br />

faculty will arrange a study-research outline with each student in<br />

the first tutorial meeting. Weekly progress reports conferences and<br />

a research paper are required. FA 3293 may not be used to satisfy<br />

the period distribution requirements <strong>of</strong> the art history major. This<br />

course may be repeated once for credit.<br />

FA 3299 Sen Honors Thesis Art History<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: consent <strong>of</strong> the department and Director <strong>of</strong> the Honors<br />

Program. Directed research leading to the writing <strong>of</strong> a Senior Honors<br />

Thesis. Must be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> six credit hours in order<br />

to graduate with honors in Art History. Credit for this course will<br />

not be counted towards the 12 hours <strong>of</strong> Art History at the 3000-level<br />

or above required for Art History majors. Successful completion <strong>of</strong><br />

six hours in FA 3299 will be accepted in lieu <strong>of</strong> FA 3203.<br />

FA 3301 Advanced Drawing<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 3402. Students will execute a<br />

major project in the area <strong>of</strong> photography, prepare a critical analysis<br />

<strong>of</strong> their project, and plan and present a suitable exhibit <strong>of</strong> the<br />

project for review and evaluation by a committee <strong>of</strong> studio faculty.<br />

Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio work.<br />

FA 3302 Advanced Drawing<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: FA 2300. Studio work in drawing with emphasis on<br />

studio projects. Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio work.<br />

FA 3400 Intermediate Photography<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: Fine Arts 2400. Advanced work<br />

in photographic techniques as a means <strong>of</strong> pictorial expression. FA<br />

3400 and 3401 must be taken in sequence. A grade <strong>of</strong> C or better<br />

must be earned in FA 3400 before taking FA 3401. Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio<br />

work for each class.<br />

FA 3401 Intermediate Photography<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 2400. Advanced work in<br />

photographic techniques as a means <strong>of</strong> pictorial expression. FA<br />

3400 and 3401 must be taken in sequence. A grade <strong>of</strong> C or better<br />

must be earned in FA 3400 before taking FA 3401. Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio<br />

work for each class.<br />

FA 3402 Advanced Photography<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 3401. Advanced photography<br />

is a continuation <strong>of</strong> FA 3401 with more emphasis on personal<br />

artistic expression and greater craftsmanship. Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio<br />

work.<br />

FA 3403 Senior Project in Photography<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 3402. Students will execute a<br />

major project in the area <strong>of</strong> photography, prepare a critical analysis<br />

<strong>of</strong> their project, and plan and present a suitable exhibit <strong>of</strong> the<br />

project for review and evaluation by a committee <strong>of</strong> studio faculty.<br />

Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio work.<br />

FA 3595 AYA-Special Topics Fine Arts<br />

3 cr.<br />

This course is only <strong>of</strong>fered through UNO’s Academic Year Abroad<br />

(AYA) in Innsbruck, Austria and can be repeated once for credit.<br />

FA 3600 Intermediate Sculpture<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 2600. A continuation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

study <strong>of</strong> formal and technical problems in sculpture; exploration<br />

by the student into new techniques and materials. Demonstrations<br />

and discussions. FA 3600 and 3601 must be taken in sequence. A<br />

grade <strong>of</strong> C or better must be earned in FA 3600 before taking FA<br />

3601. Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio work.<br />

FA 3601 Intermediate Sculpture<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 2600. A continuation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

study <strong>of</strong> formal and technical problems in sculpture; exploration<br />

by the student into new techniques and materials. Demonstrations<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 3601. A continuation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

study <strong>of</strong> formal and technical problems in sculpture; development<br />

<strong>of</strong> the individual’s art and its relation to the world <strong>of</strong> sculpture;<br />

and further expansion in techniques, materials, and theories. Demonstrations<br />

and discussions. Six hours <strong>of</strong> studio work.<br />

FA 3603 Senior Project Sculpture<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: FA 3602. Students will execute a<br />

major project in the area <strong>of</strong> sculpture, prepare a critical analysis <strong>of</strong><br />

their project, and plan and present a suitable exhibit <strong>of</strong> the project<br />
