ENCE 3356 Structural Analysis<br />
4 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: ENCE 2351 and 2301. Analysis <strong>of</strong> structures using manual<br />
and computer methods. Analysis <strong>of</strong> determinate and indeterminate<br />
structures subjected to static loads by the following methods:<br />
moment-area principles, virtual work, conjugate beam, moment<br />
distribution, displacement method.<br />
ENCE 3390 Basic Project Management<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: Junior standing. Civil engineering economic analysis<br />
including equivalence, cash flow diagrams, present worth, decision<br />
analysis, estimating economic life, project definition, the project<br />
manager, planning, scheduling, critical path analysis, and project<br />
evaluation and review techniques.<br />
ENCE 3900 Senior Honors Thesis<br />
1-6 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: admission to the Honors Program, and approval by<br />
the director <strong>of</strong> the Honors Program and the chair <strong>of</strong> the department.<br />
Senior level research and/or design project in civil engineering.<br />
Thesis and oral examination required. May be repeated for<br />
credit with total hours not to exceed six.<br />

and grids, horizontal and vertical control for photogrammetric<br />
mapping, ellipsoidal datum shifts, stereoscopic plotting instruments,<br />
orthophotos, panoramic and orbital photography, terrestrial<br />
and close-range photogrammetric control extension, and analytical<br />
rectification by single ray.<br />

rigid and erodible boundary open channels; similitude and hydraulic<br />
modeling; design <strong>of</strong> hydraulic structures. Two hours <strong>of</strong> lecture<br />
and three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory/tutorial.<br />

ENCE 4319 Fluid Mech & Hyd Engr Lab<br />
1 cr.<br />
Co-requisite: ENCE 4318. The time will be equally split between<br />
laboratory experiments in the Hydraulics laboratory and design<br />
tutorials. The physical experiments are designed to demonstrate<br />
the continuity, energy and momentum principles; flow in hydraulic<br />
structures such as culverts, weirs, spillways, and stilling basins;<br />
steady and unsteady flow including gravity waves; rigid and mobile<br />
bed flows. The tutorials will cover: the use <strong>of</strong> applicable s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
for hydraulic systems and the design <strong>of</strong> hydraulic structures or<br />
components <strong>of</strong> hydraulic structures (3-hr laboratory).<br />

Prerequisite: ENGL 2152, ENCE 2301 and 4318. Hydrological processes<br />
and computations; groundwater flow and hydraulics <strong>of</strong> wells;<br />
probability concepts in hydraulic design; reservoirs; hydromachinery;<br />
drainage and urban collection systems; flood mitigation; navigation;<br />
water law; economics <strong>of</strong> water resources; water resources<br />
development and systems approach. Two hours <strong>of</strong> lecture and<br />
three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

drainage systems including: sanitary sewer systems, storm water<br />
collection systems, sewage pumping stations, and appurtenances<br />
and special structures.<br />
