6 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: open only to students admitted to the Alternate<br />

Post-Baccalaureate Secondary Teacher Certification Program who<br />

have completed a minimum <strong>of</strong> 12 hours <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional education<br />

courses and all appropriate methods courses prior to enrollment in<br />

this internship and who presently hold a teaching position in their<br />

area <strong>of</strong> desired certification. The intern will participate in classroom<br />

teaching, observation, planning and evaluation conferences,<br />

school and community activities, and other school-related experiences.<br />

Enrollment in two consecutive semesters (12 cr.) is required.<br />

session only. An invitational workshop designed for teachers<br />

interested in improving writing, theirs and their students’. An<br />

intensive exploration <strong>of</strong> the research and practice in the field. Section<br />

number will correspond with credit to be earned.<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDSP 4060 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Study <strong>of</strong><br />

applied behavior analysis and single subject research designs to<br />

implement educational and habilitative programs in applied settings.<br />

Two hours <strong>of</strong> lecture and two hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDCI 6310 Foundations <strong>of</strong> Adult Education<br />

and philosophical foundations <strong>of</strong> adult education.<br />

EDCI 6320 Adult Learning & Development<br />

3 cr.<br />

(EDCI 6320 and EDAD 6320 are cross-listed) An inquiry into adult<br />

learning theories, developmental stages, and the forces which motivate<br />

adults to participate in educational programs.<br />

EDCI 6370 Methods <strong>of</strong> Adult Education<br />

(EDCI 6370 and EDAD 6370 are cross-listed) A study <strong>of</strong> the variety<br />

<strong>of</strong> techniques and strategies to assess needs, present information,<br />

facilitate learning, organize the learning environment, and evaluate<br />

the performance <strong>of</strong> adult learners.<br />

EDCI 6390 Practicum in Adult Learning<br />

3 cr.<br />

(EDCI 6390 and EDAD 6390 are cross-listed) Prerequisites: EDCI/<br />

EDAD 6310, 6320 and completion <strong>of</strong> or concurrent enrollment in<br />

EDCI/EDAD6370 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Application <strong>of</strong> various<br />

learning theories in actual teaching/learning situations.<br />

EDCI 6434 Developmental Reading<br />

3 cr.<br />

A comprehensive treatment <strong>of</strong> methods, materials, principles, and<br />

practices <strong>of</strong> devising an effective developmental reading program,<br />

with emphasis on studies, research, and experimentation.<br />

EDCI 6435 Assessment Alter in Literacy<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDCI 6434 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Focuses on techniques<br />

for assessing students’ reading and writing behaviors within<br />

the context <strong>of</strong> naturally-occurring classroom activities. (Note: This<br />

course cannot be used to substitute for required special education<br />

coursework leading to educational diagnostician certifications in<br />

Louisiana.)<br />

EDCI 6436 Diagnostic and Remedial Readng<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDCI 6434. Study <strong>of</strong> diagnostic and remedial techniques<br />

in reading. Practicum.<br />

EDCI 6438 Clinical Diagnosis Rdg Problem<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDCI 6434 and 6436 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. A<br />

course designed for the reading specialist to develop the skills <strong>of</strong><br />

diagnosing severe reading problems with emphasis on individual<br />

diagnostic testing.<br />

EDCI 6460 Psychology <strong>of</strong> Reading<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDCI 6434 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Explorations<br />

in the psychological processes involved in reading and learning to<br />

read.<br />
