Students must complete the following requirements for a minor in<br />

Film, Theatre, and Communication Arts:<br />

1. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 14 credit hours with a grade <strong>of</strong> C or better in the<br />

2. An additional six hours selected from Film, Theatre, and<br />

Honors in Film, Theatre, and Communication Arts<br />

Students wishing to graduate with honors in Film, Theatre, and<br />

Communication Arts must meet the following requirements:<br />

1. A cumulative grade-point average <strong>of</strong> 3.5 in all Film, Theatre, and<br />

Communication Arts courses taken and an overall grade-point<br />

average <strong>of</strong> 3.25.<br />

2. Completion <strong>of</strong> Film, Theatre, and Communication Arts 3099<br />

(Senior Honors Thesis) for six credits, in addition to the usual<br />

course requirements for the degree.<br />

3. Satisfactory performance in an oral examination defending the<br />

thesis before a committee composed <strong>of</strong> the thesis director, a representative<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Honors Program, and one other faculty member<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Film, Theatre, and Communication Arts.<br />

3. One 4000-level British literature course after 1660 (English 4701,<br />

4702, 4715, 4716, 4801, 4802, 4807, 4808, 4815, or approved 4391).<br />

4. One 3000/4000-level course in the theory and practice <strong>of</strong> writing<br />

(English 4151, 4152, 4154, 4155, 4158, 4161, 4163, 4231, 4398, or<br />

approved 4391 or Journalism 4700 or other 4000 level Journalism<br />

courses).<br />

5. One 4000-level cross-cultural literature course (English 4070,<br />

4093, 4230, 4370, 4376, 4378, 4390, 4913*, 4914*, 4915*, 4916*, 4917*,<br />

Optional Concentrations within the Major Program<br />

The English Department <strong>of</strong>fers courses in four concentrations:<br />

1. creative writing,<br />

2. pr<strong>of</strong>essional writing,<br />

3. English for pre-law students,<br />

4. comparative literature.<br />

Students interested in pursuing one <strong>of</strong> the concentrations should<br />

see the Coordinator <strong>of</strong> Undergraduate English for a list <strong>of</strong> relevant<br />

courses.<br />

Honors in English<br />

Available to qualified majors and non-majors, and open (but not<br />

limited) to students enrolled in <strong>University</strong> Honors.<br />

Honors in English for English Majors<br />

To graduate with honors in English, English majors must:<br />

1. Fulfill the usual requirement for English majors.<br />

2. Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.5 in<br />

English and 3.25 overall.<br />

3. Complete a minimum <strong>of</strong> nine semester hours in honors courses,<br />

which may include English 2199, 2299, and 2399.<br />
