Students electing the Art History Option must complete satisfactorily<br />

the following:<br />

1. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 42 hours in Fine Arts including 1011, 1012, 2201,<br />

2202.<br />

2. 27 hours in art history courses at the 3000 level or above. These<br />

courses should be distributed among at least three <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

periods or areas:<br />

a. Ancient through Medieval,<br />

b. Renaissance through Baroque,<br />

c. Eighteenth century through Contemporary,<br />

d. Non-Western Art, and<br />

e. Museum or Gallery internship. Independent Study in Art History,<br />

Fine Arts 3293 may not be used to satisfy this distribution<br />

requirement.<br />

3. Fine Arts 3203. Art History majors may not register for FA 3203<br />

before having completed at least 24 hours at the 3000 level or<br />

above. FA 3203 fulfills the General Degree Requirement for Oral<br />

Competency.<br />

Minors in Fine Arts<br />

A minor in Fine Arts, Studio Art Option, requires that the student<br />

take a total <strong>of</strong> 18 credit hours in art studio courses including the<br />

following:<br />

Freshman and Sophomore Years—Fine Arts 1011, 1012, 1014.<br />

Junior Year—9 hours <strong>of</strong> studio art, 2000 level and above.<br />

A C or better must be earned in each course. The courses may be<br />

taken as elective credits at any point in the undergraduate curriculum<br />

provided that the student adheres to prerequisites and course-level<br />

restrictions listed in the catalog.<br />

A minor in Fine Arts, History Option, requires that the student<br />

take a total <strong>of</strong> 18 credit hours in art history courses including the<br />

following:<br />

Freshman Year—Fine Arts 1010.<br />

Sophomore Year—Fine Arts 2201, 2202.<br />

French requirements for French majors:<br />

1. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 30 semester hours in French courses, not including<br />

1001, 1002, 2001 and 2002.<br />

2. French 3002, 3031, 3041, 3042, 3100, 3101, and 3205. French 3100 and<br />

3101 must be taken prior to, or concurrently with, more advanced<br />

literature courses.<br />

3. At least nine hours <strong>of</strong> French courses, including six hours at the<br />

4000 level.<br />

4. French 3197. This course will fulfill the <strong>University</strong> requirement<br />

for oral pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.<br />

5. French 3500. This course prepares majors for the Written Exit<br />

Exam.<br />

General requirements for French majors:<br />

1. English 2341, 2342 (to be taken prior to, or concurrently with,<br />

French 3205, 3100, 3101).<br />

2. History 1001, 1002.<br />

3. European History (six hours <strong>of</strong> courses numbered above 2000;<br />

French 4201 or 4202 may be substituted for three <strong>of</strong> these hours.<br />

If French courses are elected, student must take three hours <strong>of</strong><br />

social science at the 2000 level or above.)<br />

In all cases college subject requirements should be completed before<br />

taking electives. Refer to the <strong>University</strong> and college requirements for<br />

particulars. In conference with a foreign language advisor each student<br />

will plan a balanced and coherent program designed for the student’s<br />

particular needs and interests. Through choice <strong>of</strong> electives the student<br />

may wish to combine the major program with another field <strong>of</strong> study:<br />

a second foreign language and literature, linguistics, the civilization <strong>of</strong><br />

an area, an allied subject within the humanities, an allied field within<br />

the social sciences, sciences, or business administration.<br />

Minor in French<br />

A minor requiring 18 credit hours <strong>of</strong> French with a 2.0 grade point<br />

average is <strong>of</strong>fered. Specific courses are: 2002, 3031, 3041, 3042, 3100, or<br />

3101, and three additional hours beyond 3101.<br />

Honors in French<br />

An honors program in French is available to superior students,<br />
