to registration in English 3399 (Honors Thesis) may be counted<br />

Honors in English for Non-Majors<br />
To graduate With Honors in English, students not majoring in English<br />
must:<br />
1. Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.5 in<br />
English courses and 3.25 overall.<br />
2. Complete a minimum <strong>of</strong> 12 semester hours in English courses<br />
approved by the department. At least six <strong>of</strong> the 12 hours must be<br />
in courses numbered 3000 or above.<br />
3. Complete a minimum <strong>of</strong> nine semester hours in honors courses,<br />
which may include English 2199, 2299, and 2399.<br />
4. Successfully complete a six-hour thesis. With consent <strong>of</strong> the chair<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> English and the director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong><br />
Honors Program, three hours <strong>of</strong> related coursework taken prior<br />

Minor in English<br />
Eighteen hours in English tailored to the needs <strong>of</strong> the student as<br />
approved by the Coordinator <strong>of</strong> Undergraduate English:<br />
1. Six hours <strong>of</strong> English department literature courses numbered<br />
2000 or above.<br />
2. Twelve additional hours <strong>of</strong> English courses numbered 2000 or<br />
above, nine <strong>of</strong> which must be at the 3000- or 4000-level.<br />
3. A minimum grade <strong>of</strong> C in each course taken for the minor.<br />
Minor in Print Journalism<br />
The College <strong>of</strong> Liberal Arts administers the Minor in Print Journalism<br />
in conjunction with Southern <strong>University</strong> in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong>. To earn<br />
this minor, students must complete 18 credit hours. The 12 hours <strong>of</strong><br />
required courses are: SUNO’s Journalism 241 or UNO’s Film, Theatre and<br />
Communication Arts 1600; SUNO’s Journalism 242 or UNO’s Journalism<br />
2700; SUNO’s Journalism 320; and SUNO’s Journalism 420 or UNO’s<br />
Journalism 4700 or other 4000-level Journalism courses. Six hours <strong>of</strong><br />
electives must be selected from the following SUNO courses: Journalism<br />
360, Journalism 425, Journalism 430, and Journalism 450.<br />

Three <br />
out <strong>of</strong> the five courses must be taken, one <strong>of</strong> which must be<br />
the introductory course in the chosen area <strong>of</strong> specialization (Fine<br />
Arts Option).<br />

Four courses; intermediate through senior project in the chosen area<br />
<strong>of</strong> specialization. Intermediate through advanced courses in areas<br />
<strong>of</strong> concentration fulfill the General Degree Requirement for Oral<br />
Competency.<br />

Any <br />
course in the sequence FA 2900-3903 also fulfills the General<br />
Computer Literacy Requirement.<br />
Students electing the Studio Art option must complete satisfactorily<br />
the following:<br />
1. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 45 hours in Fine Arts including 1011, 1012, 1014,<br />
2201, 2202, 2300, three <strong>of</strong> the following five: 2400 (photography),<br />
2600 (sculpture), 2700 (painting), 2800 (printmaking), and 2900<br />
(digital art); and six additional hours <strong>of</strong> art history at the 3000<br />
or 4000 level.<br />
2. A 12-hour sequence <strong>of</strong> 3000-level courses in a studio area <strong>of</strong> specialization<br />
chosen from the following: photography, sculpture,<br />
painting, printmaking, or digital art. Courses within a studio area<br />
form a continuous sequence from the introductory level through<br />
senior project course (Fine Arts 2400 - 3403, 2600 - 3603, 2700 -<br />
3703, 2800 - 3803, 2900 - 3903). No student may enroll in any level<br />
<strong>of</strong> a sequence who has not received a grade <strong>of</strong> C or better in the<br />
course <strong>of</strong> the previous level.<br />
Students may expect that a limited number <strong>of</strong> class projects will be<br />
kept for display and for a permanent collection.<br />
