BA 3080 Corporate Social Responsblty<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Investigates the elements which form the<br />

ethical standards <strong>of</strong> the United States corporate community and<br />

the philosophical, religious, and cultural roots <strong>of</strong> such standards.<br />

Reading in ethical problems <strong>of</strong> advertising, pricing, automation,<br />

and business involvement in solution <strong>of</strong> social problems. Includes<br />

case studies and simulations.<br />

BA 3090 Internship in Entrepreneurship<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Consent <strong>of</strong> department. This course will permit undergraduates<br />

to be engaged in at least ten hours per week at the<br />

site <strong>of</strong> a private sector organization that directs interns in specific<br />

projects or job duties relating to entrepreneurial activities.<br />

There are no textbooks and no formal class meetings, although<br />

students are required to meet one-on-one with the instructor to<br />

review their progress. Students prepare a major written report on<br />

their experience.<br />

BA 3091 Indep Study Entrepreneurship<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. This tutorial is arranged individually<br />

in order to provide the opportunity for specialized study<br />

and research on topics in entrepreneurship. The faculty member<br />

will arrange a study/research proposal with each student in the<br />

initial meeting. Weekly project reports, meetings, and a research<br />

paper are required.<br />

BA 4048 International Business Law<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: BA 3010. Law as it relates to international business<br />

organizations and commercial transactions. Among the subjects<br />

covered are sovereign immunity and international treaties and<br />

agreements; foreign antitrust laws and unfair trade practices; protection<br />

<strong>of</strong> property rights <strong>of</strong> American subsidiaries abroad; alien<br />

investment in the United States; foreign relations law; trade liberalization;<br />

and international arbitration.<br />

plan for a new venture are examined. Topics include the nature <strong>of</strong><br />

entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship, market and feasibility analysis,<br />

sources <strong>of</strong> money, financial analysis and planning, ownership<br />

forms and tax considerations, and staffing and organization <strong>of</strong> the<br />

firm. A major requirement will be the development <strong>of</strong> a business<br />

plan for a new venture.<br />

knowledge in a small business situation. Hands-on experience<br />

through a consulting assignment with a small business client. Participating<br />

businesses and student teams must develop jointly a proposal<br />

which identifies factors <strong>of</strong> success in this industry, addresses<br />

the areas (problems) <strong>of</strong> concern to the entrepreneur, and specific<br />

plan <strong>of</strong> action. The student team is required to submit a written<br />

and an oral report at the end <strong>of</strong> the semester to the faculty advisor<br />

and the client. Both parties will evaluate the team report and presentation.<br />

Students are guided by the instructor but are expected<br />

to provide most <strong>of</strong> the initiative to complete the project. Small<br />

business clients will be procured through the UNO Small Business<br />

Development Center, the U.S. Small Business Administration and<br />

other local sources.<br />

BA 4400 Legal & Ethical Environment<br />

3 cr.<br />

A survey <strong>of</strong> basic legal and ethical topics in the areas <strong>of</strong> Constitutional<br />

law, torts, administrative agency law, contract law, international<br />

law, commercial paper law, agency law, business organizations<br />

law, antitrust and securities laws. Provides an introduction to<br />

fundamental legal and ethical concepts for pre-MBA students who<br />

have not had prior course work in these areas. Not open to undergraduate<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Business Administration majors. A student may<br />

not receive credit for both BA 3010 and BA 4400. May not be taken<br />

for graduate credit.<br />

BA 6001 Res in Business & Economics<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Math 2314. An intensive study <strong>of</strong> concepts, tools, methods,<br />

and theory <strong>of</strong> research in business and economics. Procurement<br />

and evaluation <strong>of</strong> data for use as a basis for planning, control,<br />

and operation <strong>of</strong> the business.<br />

BA 6010 Health Care Management<br />

3 cr.<br />

A survey <strong>of</strong> the effective management <strong>of</strong> health care organizations.<br />

Classical managerial functions and principles are examined<br />

in the light <strong>of</strong> the latest contingency theories and findings <strong>of</strong> the<br />

behavioral scientists.<br />

BA 6011 HRM in Health Care Settings<br />

3 cr.<br />

A broad study <strong>of</strong> the theories, techniques and legal environment<br />

pertaining to modern personnel management in health care settings.<br />

A student may not receive credit for both BA 6011 and MANG<br />

6467.<br />

BA 6012 Org Behavior in Health Care<br />

3 cr.<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> organizational behavior and enhancement <strong>of</strong> interpersonal<br />

competence in health care settings.<br />

BA 6013 Strat Issues Health Care Org<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Final semester in Health Care Management Program. A<br />

survey <strong>of</strong> strategic management and situational analysis <strong>of</strong> health<br />

care organizations. The need and rationale for strategic management<br />
