A&S 2899 Twentieth Century Issues<br />

3 cr.<br />

The topic varies from semester to semester. The course may be<br />

repeated once for credit.<br />

A&S 2900 Euro Civil Field-Based Lrning<br />

3 cr.<br />

Students live and work in a European country, study the language,<br />

culture, and history <strong>of</strong> the country, and analyze the distinctive<br />

social practices to be found. Intensive and reflective interaction<br />

with the host population is stressed. May be repeated for credit<br />

with consent <strong>of</strong> the Director <strong>of</strong> the Honors Program. Students<br />

should have previous experience with the language <strong>of</strong> the host<br />

country. This course is not to be used for independent study.<br />

A&S 2999 Forms <strong>of</strong> Inquiry<br />

1 cr.<br />

Introduction to various disciplinary perspectives, the current problems,<br />

theoretical underpinnings, and methods <strong>of</strong> procedure that<br />

direct diverse forms <strong>of</strong> inquiry. Scholars from the various departments<br />

will display their fields <strong>of</strong> study while addressing a common<br />

theme. May be repeated for up to three credit hours.<br />

A&S 3099 Honors Colloquium<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: junior or senior standing and recommendation <strong>of</strong><br />

a pr<strong>of</strong>essor or student’s dean. The subject varies. Course may be<br />

repeated once for credit.<br />

A&S 3110 The End <strong>of</strong> the Past<br />

3 cr.<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> the principal social and cultural movements between the<br />

French Revolution and World War I.<br />

A&S 3595 AYA-Special Topics Arts & Sci<br />

3 cr.<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> historical and current European views <strong>of</strong> American culture<br />

as presented in the creative arts, literature, and political writings,<br />

and scholarly analyses. This course is only <strong>of</strong>fered through<br />

UNO’s Academic Year Abroad (AYA) in Innsbruck, Austria and can<br />

be repeated once for credit.<br />

A&S 3599 Natural Science<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing and completion <strong>of</strong> a oneyear<br />

course in physical science and one in biological sciences, at<br />

least one with laboratory. Selective problems illustrative <strong>of</strong> developing<br />

concepts <strong>of</strong> the natural and physical universe and <strong>of</strong> living<br />

organisms. Readings, discussions, papers.<br />

A&S 3999 Senior Honors Thesis<br />

3 cr.<br />

Admission by consent <strong>of</strong> the Director <strong>of</strong> the General Studies<br />

Degree Program and the Director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> Honors Program.<br />

Directed research culminating in a written thesis to meet<br />

the requirements for graduation with <strong>University</strong> Honors or Honors<br />

in General Studies. May be repeated once for a total <strong>of</strong> six hours<br />

credit.<br />

Arts Administration<br />

AADM 4502 Principles <strong>of</strong> Arts Admin Law<br />

3 cr.<br />

An introduction to the concepts <strong>of</strong> contracts, copyright, agency,<br />

facilities liability and other legal principles which affect those<br />

who perform or create art and entertainment. Through lecture<br />

and readings, the student will learn how the world <strong>of</strong> culture and<br />

entertainment is affected by the law and how the law is affected<br />

by the arts. Not open to Arts Administration Graduate Students, and<br />

not for graduate credit.<br />

AADM 6501 Development for Arts Orgs<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Consent <strong>of</strong> the program coordinator. A study <strong>of</strong> development<br />

and fund raising strategies and techniques for nonpr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

arts organizations. Topics include financial management and planning;<br />

federal, state, and local grants; foundation grants; corporate<br />

support; annual fund drives and special events; capital campaigns<br />

and deferred giving. Special problems and opportunities in development<br />

are explored through case studies and projects with local<br />

arts organizations.<br />

AADM 6502 Arts Admn Legal & Bus Appl<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> program coordinator. The study <strong>of</strong> several<br />

areas <strong>of</strong> law and business as they apply to the administration<br />

<strong>of</strong> the artistic institution. The subjects covered include government<br />

regulations, contracts, taxes, and insurance. This seminar is<br />

designed to examine the management <strong>of</strong> art galleries, theaters, and<br />

concert halls with an application <strong>of</strong> these legal and business considerations.<br />

Limited internship or observation opportunity in an<br />

arts organization.<br />

AADM 6503 Marketing the Arts<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> the program coordinator. Application <strong>of</strong><br />

marketing techniques to nonpr<strong>of</strong>it and commercial arts organizations<br />

and products. Topics include special principles in marketing<br />

the arts, the marketing audit and marketing plan, market research<br />

and target marketing, direct mail and telemarketing, and applications<br />

to both visual and performing arts organizations. Special<br />

problems in marketing are explored through case studies and projects<br />

with local arts organizations.<br />

AADM 6900 Practicum in Arts Administratn<br />

1-3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. Supervised experience in various<br />

fields <strong>of</strong> Arts Administration. Amount <strong>of</strong> credit to be stated at<br />

the time <strong>of</strong> registration. May be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> up to six<br />

hours.<br />

AADM 6990 Internship Arts Administration<br />

6 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: enrollment in the master’s program in Arts Administration<br />

and satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> comprehensive examination.<br />

A supervised program for students completing the degree<br />

in Arts Administration in which participants gain experience in<br />

most aspects <strong>of</strong> the management <strong>of</strong> an arts institution ranging<br />

from ticket sales to contract negotiations. Objectives are set and<br />

evaluation is accomplished jointly by the program coordinator, the<br />

student, and the on-site supervisor. A research report on the internship<br />

is required.<br />

AADM 7040 Exam or Report Only<br />

0 cr.<br />

Open to students in a thesis program who have only (other than<br />

application for degree) the final typing and acceptance by the<br />

Graduate School <strong>of</strong> their thesis or dissertation or to students in<br />

a non-thesis program who have only (other than application for<br />

degree) to pass the final examination to complete graduation<br />

requirements.<br />

Accounting<br />

ACCT 2100 Principles <strong>of</strong> Accounting<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Not open to students in remedial English or<br />

remedial mathematics. Not open to freshmen. An introduction to<br />

the accounting model and financial statement preparation with<br />

emphasis on the concepts and terminology needed to understand a<br />

typical corporate report. Topics covered include: current and longterm<br />

assets current and longterm liabilities, stockholders’ equity,<br />

revenues and expenses.<br />

ACCT 2130 Management Accounting<br />

3 cr.<br />

Offered each semester. Prerequisite: ACCT 2100. Not open to freshmen.<br />

Not for credit toward a degree in Accounting. A study <strong>of</strong> the<br />

accounting process <strong>of</strong> the firm and its role in managerial planning,<br />

control, and decision-making; analysis and interpretation <strong>of</strong> financial<br />

statements.<br />

ACCT 3090 Internship in Accounting<br />

3 cr.<br />

Students will engage in at least ten hours per week at the site<br />

<strong>of</strong> an assigned participating organization that directs the interns<br />
