EDHP 1033 Aerobic Dance<br />

1 cr.<br />

A total fitness program designed to strengthen the heart, lungs, and<br />

vascular system through continuous rhythmic movement. Three<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDHP 1040 Beginning Gymnastics<br />

1 cr.<br />

A course designed to develop beginning skill in tumbling, gymnastics<br />

apparatus, and trampoline. Three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDHP 1050 Conditioning for Phys Fitness<br />

1 cr.<br />

A course designed to promote physical fitness with emphasis on<br />

cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and<br />

body composition. Three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDHP 1052 Marathon Training<br />

1 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. This course is designed to prepare<br />

an individual to successfully complete a 26.2 mile footrace<br />

marathon. In addition to physical training, physiologic, psychologic,<br />

nutritional, and historical perspectives will be examined as<br />

related to marathon running.<br />

EDHP 1060 Weight Training<br />

Acquisition <strong>of</strong> knowledge and skill in weight training. Three hours<br />

<strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDHP 1070 Beginning Swimming<br />

1 cr.<br />

A course designed to provide the student with knowledge <strong>of</strong> swimming,<br />

basic swimming skills, and water safety aids. Three hours <strong>of</strong><br />

laboratory.<br />

EDHP 1071 Advanced Swimming<br />

1 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDHP 1070 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. A course designed<br />

to provide the student with knowledge <strong>of</strong> advanced swimming techniques<br />

and basic water safety skills. Three hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDHP 1072 Lifeguard Training/WSI<br />

2 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDHP 1071 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. A course to provide<br />

the student with lifeguard training and water safety instruction<br />

skills in accordance with Red Cross Standards. One hour <strong>of</strong><br />

lecture and three hours <strong>of</strong> lab.<br />

EDHP 1080 Beginning Martial Arts<br />

1 cr.<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> a modern, scientific valid martial art that includes<br />

skill development in basic technique, form and sparring. Students<br />

who pass the belt test at the end <strong>of</strong> the course and desire <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

ranking in the International Shotokan Karate Federation can<br />

obtain a certificate, membership card, and appropriate belt by paying<br />

a small fee.<br />

A course designed to provide the student with skills, technique, and<br />

knowledge relative to coaching volleyball.<br />

Psychological considerations applied to the athletic situation,<br />

including coaching personalities, athletic personalities, psychological<br />

injuries, motivation, mental preparation, relaxation techniques,<br />

and stereotypes in athletics.<br />

EDHP 2110 Found <strong>of</strong> Hum Perf & Hlth Promo<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. The study <strong>of</strong> the history, principles,<br />

philosophies, and social foundations <strong>of</strong> health and physical<br />

education.<br />

EDHP 2170 Meas & Eval Hum Perf/Hlth Prom<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: Complete at least one three-credit Math course at or<br />

above the 1000 level, EDHP 2110, or consent <strong>of</strong> department. A study<br />

<strong>of</strong> the fundamental aspects <strong>of</strong> the measurement and evaluative<br />

process. Principles and practices concerning the construction, use,<br />

administration, and interpretation <strong>of</strong> evaluative instruments in<br />

human performance and health promotions in school and nonschool<br />

settings.<br />

EDHP 2311 Methods in Physical Education<br />

3 cr.<br />

This course addresses methods <strong>of</strong> teaching physical education and<br />

coordinated health in elementary schools. One hour <strong>of</strong> lecture and<br />

two hours <strong>of</strong> field experience. Prerequisites: EDUC 1000, 1100, 2000<br />

and 2100.<br />

EDHP 2320 Meth PE/Health Elem School<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDUC 1000, 1100, 2000. A course designed for the physical<br />

education and elementary education teacher candidate. Focus<br />

is on teaching skills and age-appropriate curriculum in health and<br />

physical education for grades PK-6. This course includes field experiences<br />

and meets for a total <strong>of</strong> four hours weekly.<br />

EDHP 2600 Leadership in Social Recreatio<br />

2 cr.<br />

Techniques <strong>of</strong> leadership in recreational activities, crafts, group<br />

singing, party games and contests, dancing and outings. One hour<br />

<strong>of</strong> lecture and two hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDHP 2700 Special Physical Education<br />

1 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> department. A program <strong>of</strong> special activities<br />

and exercises for students when regular activities are not appropriate.<br />

(May be repeated for one semester hour credit.) Three hours<br />

<strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

EDHP 2998 Practicum in Physical Educ K-6<br />

1 cr.<br />

For Human Performance and Health Promotion Teacher Certification<br />

students only. Required concurrent enrollment in EDHP 2320.<br />

Supervised field experience in an elementary school.<br />

EDHP 3200 Kinesiology & Biomechanics<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: BIOS 1301, 1303, 1311, and 1313; EDHP 2110; or consent <strong>of</strong><br />

the department. Special emphasis is given to factors influencing<br />

movement; mechanics <strong>of</strong> movable parts and means <strong>of</strong> voluntary<br />

control; action <strong>of</strong> joints and muscles in natural movements in daily<br />

life in gymnastics in dance and in sports; and the mechanics <strong>of</strong><br />

posture and common abnormalities <strong>of</strong> spine and foot.<br />

EDHP 3201 Physiology <strong>of</strong> Exercise<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: BIOS 1301, 1303, 1311, and 1313; EDHP 2110; MATH 1115<br />

and 1116 or MATH 1125 and 1126; or consent <strong>of</strong> department. A study<br />

<strong>of</strong> the central concepts <strong>of</strong> interdependence <strong>of</strong> bodily systems during<br />

human movement. Emphasis is placed on the effects <strong>of</strong> exercise<br />

and athletic training upon the systems <strong>of</strong> the body.<br />
