disabilities. Emphasis on strategies to increase meaningful communication<br />

opportunities across multiple partners situations and<br />

for group and whole school management with an emphasis on<br />

exceptional populations.<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDSP 4010 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department. An overview<br />

<strong>of</strong> educational considerations for students with special needs<br />

related to physical disabilities and/or health care. Emphasis on<br />

adaptation <strong>of</strong> curriculum and setting to meet the identified health<br />

and safety needs <strong>of</strong> learners with physical and multiple disabilities.<br />

Overview <strong>of</strong> positioning and handling techniques as well as safety<br />

and health care procedures including suctioning, seizure management,<br />

and gastronomy tube feeding.<br />

EDSP 6040 Instructional Issues Sv Dis<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisites: EDSP 4060 and 4070 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Continued<br />

examination <strong>of</strong> key issues related to the design, implementation,<br />

and evaluation <strong>of</strong> effective educational services for learners<br />

with severe disabilities. Emphasis on curriculum design, effective<br />

instructional strategies, and classroom level instructional issues.<br />

Students must complete a pr<strong>of</strong>essional development plan through<br />

participation in a field experience cohort as a component <strong>of</strong> this<br />

course.<br />

examination <strong>of</strong> key issues related to design, implementation, and<br />

evaluation <strong>of</strong> effective educational services for learners with severe<br />

disabilities. Emphasis on advanced instructional issues including:<br />

meeting the needs <strong>of</strong> special populations, making data-based decisions,<br />

addressing building level instructional issues, and adjusting<br />

existing strategies to improve their effectiveness. Students must<br />

complete a pr<strong>of</strong>essional development plan through participation in<br />

a field experience cohort as a component <strong>of</strong> this course.<br />

EDSP 6060 Adv Applied Behavior Analysis<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDSP 4060 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department. Study <strong>of</strong><br />

applied behavior analysis and single subject research designs to<br />

implement educational and habilitative programs in applied settings.<br />

Two hours <strong>of</strong> lecture and two hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory.<br />

3 cr.<br />

Prerequisite: EDSP 4010 or consent <strong>of</strong> the department. A study <strong>of</strong><br />

approaches to organizing the resources <strong>of</strong> early intervention and<br />

educational teams that meet the needs <strong>of</strong> individuals with severe<br />

disabilities more effectively. Emphasis on team strategies related<br />

to assessment, design <strong>of</strong> instructional and intervention strategies,<br />

program development, and evaluation. Students enrolled in the<br />

severe/pr<strong>of</strong>ound disabilities area must complete a pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

development plan through participation in a field experience<br />

cohort as a component <strong>of</strong> this course.<br />

An analysis <strong>of</strong> procedures, supervisory techniques, and applications<br />

<strong>of</strong> communication media to provide services for individuals with<br />
