in MATH 2112 or 2109. A continuation <strong>of</strong> PHYS 1061. Heat,<br />
electricity, and magnetism.<br />
PHYS 1063 Physics Lab for Science & Engr<br />
1 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. Prerequisite: credit or registration in PHYS<br />
1061. Laboratory course to accompany PHYS 1061. Two hours <strong>of</strong><br />
laboratory.<br />
PHYS 1065 Physics Lab for Science & Engr<br />
1 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. Prerequisite: credit or registration in PHYS<br />
1062. Laboratory course to accompany PHYS 1062. Two hours <strong>of</strong><br />
laboratory.<br />
PHYS 2005 Intermed Astr: Cosmology<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: PHYS 1005 1006 and MATH 1111. An intermediate level<br />
astronomy course on the nature, origin, evolution, and probable<br />
fate <strong>of</strong> the universe, including the Big Bang theory and modern<br />
controversies in cosmology.<br />
PHYS 2064 Physics for Science & Engr<br />
3 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. Prerequisites: PHYS 1062 and 1063. The last<br />
course in a three-semester sequence. Light and modern physics.<br />
PHYS 2191 Special Problems in Physics<br />
1-3 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> the department.<br />
Amount <strong>of</strong> credit to be stated at registration. Individual reading<br />
conferences and/or laboratory work on problem or problems<br />
in physics. Section number will correspond with the credit to be<br />
earned. A student will be allowed no more than a total <strong>of</strong> six credits<br />
in Special Problems ( PHYS 4191 3191 and 2191) .<br />
PHYS 3001 Princp Bio-Medical Instrumentn<br />
2 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: Physics 1032 and 1034. An introduction to the physical<br />
principles necessary for understanding the operation <strong>of</strong> equipment<br />
used by medical technicians and certain biology researchers. One<br />
hour <strong>of</strong> lecture and two hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory each week.<br />
PHYS 3191 Special Problems in Physics<br />
1-3 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. Prerequisite: consent <strong>of</strong> the department.<br />
Amount <strong>of</strong> credit to be stated at registration. Individual reading<br />
conferences and/or laboratory work on problem or problems<br />
in physics. Section number will correspond with the credit to be<br />
earned. A student will be allowed no more than a total <strong>of</strong> six credits<br />

PHYS 3198 Undergraduate Seminar<br />
1 cr.<br />
Offered each semester. A group comprised <strong>of</strong> representatives <strong>of</strong> the<br />
physics faculty and undergraduate physics majors which meets<br />
at regular intervals during the semester to discuss selected topics<br />
in physics. Physics majors must formally register and present<br />
an approved paper in order to satisfy credit requirements. May be<br />
repeated for credit.<br />
PHYS 3261 Geophysical Field Methods<br />
6 cr.<br />
(PHYS 3261 and EES 4150 are cross-listed) Prerequisites: PHYS 2064<br />
and consent <strong>of</strong> instructor. Basic introduction to the application <strong>of</strong><br />
geophysical field techniques. Includes collecting, processing, and<br />
interpreting gravity, magnetic, and seismic data. Practical experience<br />
in the conduct <strong>of</strong> geophysical surveys, operation <strong>of</strong> equipment,<br />
data reduction, and simple interpretation. Preparation <strong>of</strong> geophysical<br />
reports in the style normally used for published papers. Thirtyfive<br />
hours <strong>of</strong> classroom work and field measurements per week<br />
during the summer session.<br />
PHYS 3301 Intermediate Mechanics<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisites: PHYS 1062 and MATH 2115. Application <strong>of</strong> the fundamental<br />
laws <strong>of</strong> mechanics to particles and rigid bodies.<br />
PHYS 4004 Contemporary Physics<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: PHYS 1032 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. A survey <strong>of</strong> contemporary<br />
topics which may include nuclear power, solar energy,<br />
Einstein’s relativity and cosmology, energy and matter in the quantum<br />
picture. (Physics majors can not use this course as a physics<br />
elective.)<br />
PHYS 4004G Contemporary Physics<br />
3 cr.<br />
Prerequisite: PHYS 1032 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. A survey <strong>of</strong> contemporary<br />

a total <strong>of</strong> six hours credit. This course may not be used for degree<br />
credit by students in the College <strong>of</strong> Sciences except those enrolled<br />
in the M.A. in science teaching program.<br />

introduction to digital circuits and microprocessors with emphasis<br />
on interfacing microprocessors with scientific apparatus for experiment<br />
control, data acquisition, and storage. One-and-one-half hours<br />
<strong>of</strong> lecture and two-and-one-half hours <strong>of</strong> laboratory per week.<br />

in several branches <strong>of</strong> physics with special emphasis on the<br />
control <strong>of</strong> selected experiments by microprocessors. Fundamentals<br />
<strong>of</strong> AC and DC circuits.<br />

Prerequisite: Physics 4150 or consent <strong>of</strong> department. Four hours<br />
<strong>of</strong> laboratory and one hour <strong>of</strong> lecture each week. Selected experiments<br />

control <strong>of</strong> selected experiments by microprocessors. Fundamentals<br />
