course <strong>of</strong> study. This program is an excellent opportunity for students<br />

pursuing a degree in European and International Studies.<br />

Council for International Visitors<br />

The Council for International Visitors <strong>of</strong> Greater <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> (CIV)<br />

is a nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization that arranges pr<strong>of</strong>essional appointments<br />

and cultural activities for nearly 300 international leaders sent to the<br />

greater <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> area each year. Many are here at the invitation <strong>of</strong><br />

the U.S. government through the U.S. State Department International<br />

Visitor Program, while others are sponsored by foreign governments<br />

or private sector organizations. The <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> branch belongs to a<br />

nationwide network <strong>of</strong> 97 councils that cooperates with the National<br />

Council for International Visitors (NCIV). CIV facilitates pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

and personal interaction for <strong>of</strong>ficial visitors, enhances respect and<br />

communication through international exchanges and alliances, and<br />

promotes the city <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Orleans</strong> and the state <strong>of</strong> Louisiana as important<br />

business and cultural centers. CIV boasts 200 members and thousands<br />

<strong>of</strong> volunteers in the community that share their time and expertise<br />

in meetings with international visitors. CIV <strong>of</strong>fices are located in<br />

the UNO Technology Enterprise Center.<br />

National Student Exchange<br />

The <strong>University</strong> is a member <strong>of</strong> National Student Exchange (NSE)<br />

which provides opportunities for students to study for up to one calendar<br />

year at another NSE member college or university with nonresident<br />

fees waived. With nearly 190 universities from which to<br />

choose, students should be able to find a campus with just the right<br />

combination <strong>of</strong> courses, facilities, and environment to meet personal<br />

and academic needs and interests. NSE ex-tends beyond the borders<br />

<strong>of</strong> the United States to include U.S. territories as well as Canadian<br />

provinces. Students must be at least sophomore level (30 credit hours)<br />

with a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time <strong>of</strong> the exchange. Students meet<br />

with their UNO advisors prior to the exchange to assure that all credit<br />

completed while on exchange will transfer toward their UNO degree<br />

program. Information and applications for the exchange are available<br />

at the General Studies Program Office in room 214 <strong>of</strong> the Bicentennial<br />

Education Center, or in the Registrar’s Office in room 112 <strong>of</strong><br />

the Administration Building. Additional information concerning the<br />
